BBB.org Reports & Reviews (321)

Received a phone call today from Mr. Williams. He said that he is from the BBB.org and he was calling today to assist me in claiming my 2 million dollar prize from Publisher's Clearing House. He said that I had won the prize and that Publisher's Clearing House had tried to reach me to no avail. Therefore, they contacted me so that I could call you to alert you to your prize. He had somewhat of a foreign accent. When I told him that I was not interested in the money, he asked me if I was rich or something and wondered why I would not want the money. That's when I hung up the phone.

My wife and I both received calls on our cell phones (we have very similar phone numbers, I'm assuming they are just going down a list of phone numbers). I was called 3 times in 3 minutes and when I talked to them they claimed to be the BBB.org. He was clearly foreign and could hardly speak English and said I had won a contest and they had a certified check for me. I hung up before I was actually asked for any money or personal information.

Call was received on a cell phone with a Ft. Worth , Texas number. Caller claimed to be with BBB.org and wanted to have access to cell phone in order to track offers related to lottery winnings. Wanted $20 to fund the cost of tracking the lottery offers. Gave call back number as 718-618-8200 but a call to that number resulted in no answer.

Consumer was called by Thomas Clark claiming to be from BBB. The number he called from is 876-407-0687. Consumer was told he won $5.5 million, all he had to do was send processing fee of $1,000, but they would take $100 at this time. The money was to be sent through Western Union to Kingston, Jamaica.

I received a phone call at 12:40PM today, stating that he was calling from the BBB.org and verified who I was multiple times, had an Eastern Indian accent, spoke very slow like he had trouble with English. I was wary, never gave him any information or answers more than yes or no. He said I was scheduled to receive a package from the BBB.org at 3:30PM today at my house, asked my address, I did say yes when he said my address, but I didn't repeat it. He then asked if I had received a letter in the mail about the package and when I said no that is when he said oh yes, that is why we haven't received your response. Then he proceeded to tell me congratulations, you have been selected ( unintelligible) to receive 4.3 million dollars. I hung up. He called RIGHT BACK, same guy, and when he said yes, sorry we were disconnected, I told him to lose my number and never call again. He then mumbled Cheapskate and hung up. Phone number that was called from: 1-876-520-5965 I tried returning the call to see where it led but it was busy. I believe he said he was in Texas, but I doubt it.

I was called and said "My name is Dave Sawyers, and I am a CEO of the ScamPulse.com." He had me write down Dave Sawyers, CEO management, BBB Federal treasury department, Claims department, 8508105982. He said to call the number and select my prize for what I won. He called from 8764363792.

Received a call from someone named Ed Hopkins claiming to be from the BBB.org. He left a message asking that I call him back at 215-341-2127. Being suspicious, I got on the BBB.org's website and did a search for scams. Sure enough, this person and this phone number were already listed. After finding that this is a scam, I did not call the number back.

Caller ID 888-001-0816. Woman identified herself as calling from BBB.org. Wondering if we had found office space as they would like to update their records. When I asked why would I need office space, she replied that our business is moving. I terminated the call.

A man with a thick Jamaican accent called me and said:
"I am calling on behalf of the BBB.org in regards to the Mega Millions."
Me: Wait what, what are you calling in regards to?
Them: "Sir every time that you go to the grocery store you get a receipt, when you get a receipt you are entered to play, I am calling to tell you that you are the legitimate winner of $250,000 and a Ford Chrysler(?)."
Me: HAHA, go try this scam elsewhere.
I had already heard of this scam on NPR but wanted to report the phone number that I got the call from. (876)406-1424.

There are a lot of people being scammed by this business through Pinterest. I would hope that this matter is taken seriously.

"Megan Taylor" (Filipino accent) called our office numerous times claiming to represent the Canadian BBB. She was trying to inquire into whether we were moving or not. Very intent on trying to find out if we are moving and when. "Megan Taylor" inquired into how many employees we have in the office and what the our contact information was. She claims that she was calling from the Calgary office, but CID# is 888-008-2615. Also claims that she is calling from to update her annual business report.

Received a strange phone call from a person by the name of Ed Hopkins, They claim to be from the BBB.org. The phone number that called was 215-341-2127. When I attempted to return the call it went to voice mail and said to leave the name and phone number of the business. This is not a legitimate BBB.org phone number and is being operated by a scam artist.

A older lady caller called my number and asked if I reported a complaint with the BBB.org about winning money or a lottery. I said I always get those calls. She asked what call I received and then wanted to confirm my name by asking, "are you ..." and then she said my name. She did not pronounce my name correctly and I asked her to spell my name. I said I could not hear properly and then the line went "beep, beep, beep" for a few seconds. The lady came on again more clearer and said, now can you hear me. I explained that I never usually answer the spoofed numbers and then she asked what my call display was. I said just one minute, then hung up. I then called the BBB.org and was informed it was probably a scam.

A fellow by the name of *** ***, ID # 10703, phoned me this morning, November 20, 2015 at 11:20 a.m. to tell me that he was from BBB.org and he wanted to return some money to me from the scam I had been subjected to last year at this time. I questioned him about his authenticity and what he wanted from me. After being scammed last year I am very suspicious with these kinds of calls and I told him so. I would like you to verify to me if you actually have a person by this name working for you. I would like to know if he was legitimate or was I really facing another scam. The phone number that I got off my ID list was 239-205-4843. The questions that I have filled out further down are pertaining to last year's scam as I do not know if this call today was a scam or not.

On Monday, November 9 I found a voice mail message left at 7:55am to call Geraldine (?) Ford at the BBB.org 866-907-1001- x403. My caller ID identified the call as coming from 914-319-7565 which appears to be a Yonkers cell phone.number. I did not call because i had received recently at home two IRS imposter calls and concluded that this call had all the earmarks of a similar attempt to my office number. I thought you ought to know.

Over a period of 4-5 days I've received calls suggesting that I need to have someone correct a problem with my Gmail account. The most recent call was from "The BBB.org "; it was a female, no noticeable foreign accent. I did not give any info other than to say I need no help. She asked if I'd had any calls from Nigeria or other foreign people.

- El Dorado, AR, USA

Received a call from this number 360-450-3987 from a person by the name of Tim Burke. He said that he was with the BBB.org and that my computer had been used to make illegal transactions. He said for me to check the email that he just sent me and I told him that I was not at home. He said to check when I got home and call him at that number. The email said that I was guilty of Money Laundering and that there was an arrest warrant for me and that a copy was attached to the email but it was not. I also said that I had to appear before the magistrate as soon as possible and that law enforcement would be at my house very soon. When I called him I had already figured out that it was a scam so I didn't act like I was scared or desperate. He said that the amount of the case was $28,000. I still didn't react so he said that arrest warrant would be served soon and I just said okay and then he hung up. I suspect that if I had been upset he would have have offered to settle the case for me for a lesser amount. Not sure what else he would have offered because I didn't fall for it.

A person named "Bobby Taylor" calling from 1-876-562-8752 claimed to be calling from the BBB.org stating that I won $2.8 million dollars and a brand new Mercedes Benz. No personal information was given to this person. Just wanting to give a heads up. The caller had a possible Jamaican or Caribbean accent (for lack of a better description, I apologize if offensive).
