I emailed/contacted Barberry Brook Labradoodles/ Bonnie Stanford regarding a Labradoodle puppy. She asked me to call her back instead of talking via email. We spoke on the phone about visitation of the puppies once they were born and she mentioned no visiting but I assumed that was only because of the state lock down requirements for Covid. I had asked her again about visiting the puppies once they were born so I could pick one out now that the state had opened back up from Covid (my question was at which stage could we come see the puppies to pick one out). I could have somewhat understood the visitation limitations for Covid I thought for Covid I could see that but my request was for a puppy in December/ January 2021 (it’s currently August 08 2021) and I assumed that by December the Covid restrictions would be lifted. Instead she sent me an email saying they didn’t allow visits at all. I don’t know how she planned for parents to pick up the puppy they’d never seen other than in a picture. By the time we had this talk I had already given her a $500 deposit (back in May of 2021 using Venmo). I told her I would have never agreed to and made a payment if I knew I’d never be able to see my potential puppy and pick it out in person before hand. I told her that I vaguely remembered something about no visiting (I had also spoken with multiple breeders I had nothing in writing about never being able to see the puppies, and again I thought it was due to Covid. I told her I thought that since it’s only August and she made it clear to me that she had not even begun to plan for the December or January litters she should give me back my deposit. But instead I received silence. She has not refunded my money nor has she replied back to me in confirmation that she would. I don’t believe this is a good business practice by any breeder. Paying $3500 for something you can not see before hand is not acceptable and I would have never agreed to such a thing. I will never do business with Barberry Brook Labradoodles and would like to inform other potential victims before they pay money to such a scam.
