Employment Scam
The interview was conducted over text messaging on Skype. I was given a brief overview of the company that gave me no information about specifics and was not given an opportunity to ask questions. I was given 30 minutes to answer fifteen written questions. Then I was told to be available at 8:00 am the next day.
At 8:00 the next day I was offered the job. They informed me that they would send me a cheque to cover the cost of equipment from a designated vendor. (First red flag). When they sent me the employment letter the email had no body text and the email header had three exclamation marks (Secon red flag). They sent the employment letter in PDF format and it had many formatting issues (Not centred, text starting at the very top of the page, different text sizes, the signature had JPEG artifacting and did not appear to match the name of the HR professional in question.) as well as the details not matching the payment method we discussed.
I requested that it be fixed and resent through a secure document signing program like Docusign. They sent a word document that still had the same formatting issues. I looked up the HR Representative mentioned and could not find a LinkedIn (Seemed strange for an HR professional). Called the company through the phone number listed on their website and did not get a personalized voicemail.
When I voiced these concerns and again requested to use Docusign, they stopped responding to my messages.
