I was emailed with an offer to interview for a job. I responded, but got no response. I instead followed the instructions given in the email and signed on to Skype. Once there, the lady interviewing said it was a chat-based interview. After answering some questions, I was offered the job. I had not spoken to anyone other than this chat on Skype. During the process I would continually ask to speak to a live person via phone or video chat but kept getting denied. The person I chatted with was acting strangely. All of the text seemed very canned or pre-generated. Very AI-like. I would ask questions but rarely get direct answers. Finally, I was sent a check to purchase equipment for the home office, but it would not clear. When I informed them of this, they asked me to front the money instead. When I refused they kept going down in asking price and finally just asked for my driver's license, which I had already provided. When I said that I was no longer interested in the job due to me feeling uneasy, I received no response. However the following day I got a routine greeting message which I responded to but received no response after that. Today I also got a greeting message which I responded to. I was then asked about the check and I resent my rejection to their offer. The response I got was again, very canned and AI-like.
