I have gotten repeated phone calls telling I owe $897 to a company called Easy Money Pay Services/Payday Loan. I have no memory of such a transaction. They promised to send me a copy of the contract but never did. They reference a bank that I have not used since 2006 and an address that I have not lived at since 2017 (I didn't buy the home until 2007, so the bank and address don't ever align). When I told them the statute for contact loans was 4 years for the state of CA, they hung up on me. When I asked for their address they hung up on me. When I tell them that they are required by law to provide written validation notice within 5 days, they hang up on me. This company is a scam and I don't understand why no one has shut them down. They are not a legitimate company!

Same! They said that I had the same debt and named it as EZ Money Loan. I went right on my credit karma and I have no outstanding debt. Like you said, I don’t know how these people haven’t gotten reported or shut down, but I will definitely try to report them.

I got a message didn’t say their name or mine or the company. I had to look it up w/phone they called from and this company came up. I don’t have any overdue debt but they were threatening wage garnish etc to try and scare me. Nice try, jerk offs! Block!

The lady I spoke with stated that I took a loan out, had the last 4 digits of my social and also an old address over 12 years ago. I don’t tea all taking a loan out for that amount. She tried to settle with me for a one time payment of half. When I disregarded she stated that she’s able to make a payment plan. This all happened two days ago!

I was called today by number that's been calling me for a week I finally answered I was told that I owe a credit card company $1,500 and they're taking me to court and they're going to garnish my wages , I asked several times for an account number because the credit card company they mentioned I have a credit card with actually two that I've had over 17 years and I'm in good standing I was just given a platinum card by that company. So I told the girl this and she said well this is you so you have to pay this and I said well I want the account number and she was fumbling for words and couldn't give me an account number so she gave me to the account manager the head of the office who was very rude to me talked over me would not let me get a word in I actually hung up on them they're using my maiden name that I haven't gone by in over 23 years I asked for the address of the account at the time they give me my current address I've only lived here four years and the year they're talking about was over 10 years ago. I hung up on them and I blocked them everywhere they said I should be expecting three males and I should be going to court shortly.

I recently just received a phone call two days ago for something similar. What stood out to me was the PO Box number and state

The caller claimed I owe $$ for an EZCorp loan in 2015. They hang up on me when I say I never did business with EZ Corp. I called EZ corp and they said I do not owe any money and was never customer. Filed a complaint with BBB and Consumer Financial Protection Bureau.

I got a phone call from a robocall at first saying to call back before further action is taken. I called back to see what its about and the lady was super aggressive talking over me the entire time. The caller claimed I owe $800 for an EZCorp loan. Gave no date the supposed loan was taken out. I immediately tried telling her I don't recognize this debt and haven't ever heard of EZCorp. She wouldn't even let me speak when I tried to tell her I don't recognize this debt at all and asked for proof to be mailed. I haven't received a single piece of mail in the past regarding this but according to this Aquarion Asset Management place I'm facing "$3,000" in added fines if they take it to court. So it's to this point already but I have never heard of them?! I called EZCorp headquarters to make sure no one took my identity somehow and used it to put a loan in my name. They had absolutely no record of me in their database and stated they would still have a record of a customer even if the debt had been discharged to a collection agency. They said they've gotten other calls from people with the same situation and they never find them in their system. I got some scammy looking little texts with a short link which I didn't click on from the scam company. I didn't ask for a text with a suspicious short link I asked for proof to be mailed but maybe the aggressive lady didn't hear me since she was too busy threatening and yelling at me to even let me speak. She said she's not here to "argue" about if the debt is mine or not. So what they don't even care if it's a legitimate debt then? I informed her my attorney will reach out and then she said okay so we will move forward. I called back to verify the company name they claimed the debt was from and she did say the same name again and then told me she has a "high call volume" ...oh okay so once she figured out I wasn't paying her today she wasn't interested in speaking to me anymore. Got another robocall this morning from yet another number for same company (listed above). Posting this so other people who are going through this can see they aren't the only one.

I get a call from Aquarion Asset Management today. They say that I owe a debt of a number I can't remember right off, but are willing to settle for $502, if I pay by tomorrow, October 6, 2023. I inform them that I was incarcerated from August 2012 until October 2022. The loan was supposedly taken out or called in or something in May of 2019. Again, incarcerated. How do you get a loan with no ID? Anyway, after I told them I'm not paying, they send me some paperwork with the people I supposedly owe. EZCORP EZ MONEY. Google search says this company quit doing payday loans in 2015. So I call EZCORP and talk to a lady. She runs my information through their system. Turns out, I don't owe them money and NEVER have.

Typical scam tactic. Talk fast, high-pressure situation, keep you off balance so you will accept their "settlement". What pissed me off is they somehow managed to have lots of personal information on me. They said I owe a debt and that my wages would be garnished if I did not settle with them. I am currently unemployed so there are no "wages" to be garnished...lol. I contacted the company to which I owed this so-called debt and they had no record of it. My credit reports had no record of this debt either. After I accused them of being scammers they said I just talked to an "agent" about "my case". I informed my helpful "agent" that no one had any record of this debt. She said this..." Well sometimes credit card debt does not show on your credit report, it says so in our letter"...uh huh.

This person claiming to work for this company is calling and harassing people and claiming to be calling on behalf of fake company names for collections that don’t exist with them as they aren’t real businesses. This person at first will deny any knowledge of the company claiming the debt, then give fake business names, cannot give details of debts filed through court systems and when they are pressed for details to the claim they get frustrated and hang up. They also get frustrated when you refuse to give personal information such as social security numbers and full names and addresses and will hang up as well.

These people are scammers attempting to scam people by threatening them with old or discharged debts. What they are doing is ILLEGAL.

I was also contacted by them regarding a debt that was already paid off in 2009. I took a settlement with the original creditor and paid off the balance.

Below is how to deal with them:

Depending on the state you live in, you don't have to notify them of you recording the call. SC is a one party consent state, as long as it's me recording the call and I'm participating in it, I don't have to allow the other party to know I'm recording.
But everything else? Yes, yes, yes.

Received a phone call today regarding a Kay Jewelers account from 9-10 years ago. The guy on the phone read off my address, phone number and the last 4 of my social. I asked for proof of the debt which he claims had been mailed to me on multiple occasions. He talked really fast so I asked him was he with Kay. At that point he said the debt had been sold 2x and I was going to have a $3000 judgement placed on me if I didn't pay $775. I asked him how he could legally do that considering the debt had been sold multiple times and I had no proof that it was mine. He started getting angry and asking me if I was a lawyer. I said my occupation is none of your business and that if he had access to my personal info then he knew already where I worked. He hung up.

Did anything ever come of this for you? I received a call today and then a text with the exact same “letter” that you posted here except it was for a supposed pay day loan from EZ corp which I’ve never heard of and called to confirm they’ve never heard of me either. They said the same thing about adding $3,000 to an $800 debt (which in their little texted letter was listed as $875). I told her my attorney would contact them and then she proceeded to yell over me saying okay so we will move forward…like move forward with what? attempting to scam me?

I just received a call for a car I had 16 years ago. I traded in a car for another car and the balance of the loan was put on the car I bought. They are calling me now telling me I owe them $1292 but will settle for $680. The last said just pay the $680 and get it over with. I told her why would I pay for something I’ve already payed for. Then she said well garnishment starts today and you will get a notice in mail for court date and judges name. I asked her to send me the letter. The letter has the wrong address on it from 16 years ago, and I don’t even live in the same state anymore. These people are horrible!

I just got off the phone with these scamming losers trying to collect on a car repossession that was settled in 2018. I still have the documentation of the settlement with all relevant numbers, which I sent to them. They told me the account number is invalid because it should be the VIN number of the vehicle, not the account number I provided. They have the amount that I settled the debt for, but said it wasn't reported, and I still owed the $11,000 plus amount of the original debt, and if I go to court, I will owe the original amount on the day of judgement. They threatened wage garnishments and the other scare tactics mentioned in other posts here. They claim to be a mediator between you and the debt collector, but their voice-mail states clearly that this is an attempt to collect a debt. Their number comes up as from a city near me. These people are [censored].

+2

Going through the same that everyone else is describing, thus I will spare the specifics. However in speaking with my lawyer, we crafted a response requesting the original documentation from the original creditors as per the instructions Aquarion provided. Until they produce said documentation, any continued contact with you is in conflict with the CAN-SPAM Act of 2003, the Right to Financial Privacy Act, and the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act. Once I threatened them with immediate legal action with these references, they stopped contacting me.
Additionally, if they were to report to any of the credit bureaus without your acknowledgment of the debt or providing of verification of the validity of the debt, that would be a violation of the Fair Credit Reporting Act, again providing you legal recourse.

Lastly, if they say they have filed a suit in your local magistrate, are contacting your HR for wage garnishment, or a putting a lein on you property, those are scare tactics. There is a process for those things to occur, all of which begin with you being notified or "served" in writing (typically certified mail) and given an opportunity to provide a response.

These type of people are truly the [censored] of this Earth. Don't fall for their crap, call their bluffs, and watch them squirm!

These people have tried to get a hold of me since June 1 claiming that I owed HBC an amount of $1700 but since it’s been transferred over to them it is now with the legal fees over $3000. They offered me a 60% discount. They hung up on me 36 times as I am a very persistent person and get really irritated with scams. There is a Cory, a Trent, and a Bella. Watch out! I know I didn’t do anything due to the fact that I did file a bankruptcy back in 2012. Since then I have over an 800 score and have paid my bills on time. The bankruptcy was due to a divorce and medical bills. That one credit card itself was paid off in full. However, they are very persistent, so I began to be persistent myself. They did not like this. They get very rude when you ask them their names they want the last four of your social and I said, obviously you have enough of my information. Why do I need to give you that. He hung up on me. I called back. Another gentleman answered name Trent Corey was the first one. Trent continued to be extremely rude and started laughing and says you know how this goes. I know exactly how this goes. I stated. I do not pay as it has been paid and I do not put up with scammers. I’m not an [censored] and he hung up on me. I called back again just to keep their lines tied up, so they couldn’t try to scam somebody else for the last two hours. Everybody needs to watch out and I hope everybody does the research to find this company as I did. They are very convincing and they will definitely try to scare you. Especially if you do not have the money in your account and they offer you that discount do not take it. They are a scam , I told them let them take me to court. Again, they hung up on me. Scam alert! Please don’t fall for this.

Well said, thank you for the info! Always good to know how to rebuttal in a situation like this with these kind of threatening calls. I am the most naive person when it comes to threats….I’d believe someone who told me the grass is blue and sky is green so thank you for that info.

This company continues to harrass me on a daily basis. When the person gets on the phone I am told I can settle the $290 I owe capital one credit or they will take me to court for 3k. This was included in a bankrupcy and the debt is about 15 years old. They like to tell me that it was not included in the court documents to which it clearly is. I have asked them several times to stop calling my number. They text me documents that the woman says were mailed out to me a month ago but the document date shows the same day she sends it to me. They had me living in Ohio because my phone number is Ohio. The debt was sold to them in 2018 she said and you are just contacting me now? in 2023? They are still trying to collect it. I told the woman I know my rights as a consumer and she tells me I have no rights. I have asked for proof several times to be sent to me that I owe this debt to which she replys, she doesn't have that information i would need to call HBC bank. It is straight harrassment now. I have 3 good standing credit cards with Capitol One.

This company has called me 3 times threatens to sue me, to seize my account and vehicle, they had some of my personal information claiming I owe a debt I know nothing about. I called the company they CLAIMED I owed and the company had absolutely no record of me at all and suggested I contact the Federal Trade Commission

After reading the first post THIS PLACE IS THE SAME PLACE AS RISK MANAGEMENT GROUP IN NORTH CAROLINA. They're scammers don't send them [censored]

+6

So this place is a freaking joke. I've been getting calls the last two weeks stating I owe 808.08, with and original amount at like 400 dollars for an old credit card debt that went to collections that was already paid in full in 2018. But get this, the amount apparently owed for this card was not the amount I even paid off or even close to what was really even owed with the original real debtor so red flag there. I told them to call the orginal debtor I paid and they won't since they are a "3rd party collector" who only opened in the first week of October apparently. Seems suspicious, also got a call from "risk management group" back in June 2021 stating I owed them this same amount, they went so far to call my father to collect this debt, I told them to [censored] themselves and they never posted it to my credit report. Now fast forward to today and I've got these people asking to pay the debt. They said once I paid off my debt they probably sold it which is totally fake information cause they don't do that at all if you pay it off. Don't let these people trick you into thinking you owe money.

+5

Called from a local number. Claimed an Apple credit card had been issued in my name and sent to my current address and currently had a debt of $1000. When I told the company I had no Apple credit card they insisted that I contact Apple. When I contacted Apple there was absolutely no information regarding the supposed card. After some investigation on the Internet, I’ve found out that this company seems to be one of those companies that fishes information and then tries to get that money that is “owed” and paid to them. Contacting the FTC as well and be careful with this company

+2

They called to say that Wells Fargo was coming after me to collect a debt. I went through a recent divorce, so just assumed my husband had not paid off what he was supposed to. I called them, they gave me a total due, and a credit card number, but it was a different last digit than what I had on my records of being paid off, so I signed up for the plan as I just wanted to get it off my records. After two payments, and another collection agency calling about the same credit card, I decided to check my records again and I called the law firm that I first settled the debt with. The lawyer said that collection agencies are purposefully changing the last digit to confuse customers into thinking its a different debt. The lawyer tried calling aquarion, and no answer. I have tried calling and the phone is now disconnected. Very annoying that now my bank will not even help me recover the money they stole from me.
