Type of a scam: Government Agency Imposter

Date of incident Feb. 28, 2022

I received notification letter in the mail letting me know that I was late in filing my annual report (fees for operating a business in NC) for 2022. I checked to see that the business name and record ID was correct. The information on the form was correct. It offered a quick form of payment by scan a bar code with my smart phone. I scanned the code and it took me straight to there website portal for me to make my payment. After submitting the payment the payment page populated again. I was concerned that payment had not gone through and did not want to fill out the information again in fear of paying twice so I called the North Carolina Secretary of State to check. I was informed that there was no Record of payment. I explained what I did. The customer servers person informed me that it was a scam. I later checked my email and Annual Reporting Solutions sent me a receipt of my payment. The only information that was provided by the company was an email. I emailed them my concerns. I also called NC Secretary of State office asking if they receive to two payments for my annual report could I be refund. Customer Service didn't know the answer. Annual Report Solutions fraudulently used North Carolina Secretary of State mailing address as their official business address.

I was contacted to file our businesses annual report and it appeared it was due before I could mail it in, so I filled it out online. Realized after filing it was not from the state but from a third party who claims they will file it for you for a fee. I attempted to stop payment but needed to put in a dispute. They say you can request a refund within 30 days if not satisfied but of course give no information on how to reach them by phone, and of course don't respond to their email contact information. Complete scam.

I received correspondence from Annual Report Solutions with the name of my cleaning business and stating that this was for an annual report that needed to be filed in connection with the Secretary of States Office. It had an option to check if my information had changed and the total paid was $149.95. Shortly after I received an email about my annual registration from the Secretary of State, and at that point I was thinking this was a scam with this Annual Report Solutions. I did call the Secretary of State's Office, and they confirmed that they are not affiliated with this company. I even googled this company, and could not find this address. It is probably too late to get my money back because this was processed on March 17, 2021, but I would like to report this company per confirmation from the Secretary of State's office so that no one else will be affected. Please check it out. Hopefully this will save someone else.

Type of a scam: Fake Invoice/Supplier Bill

Received what looks like an invoice for Annual Report for my business, which I almost paid. On back in tiny writing it says "This offer serves as a solicitation and not to be intended as a bill due." Bull[censored]. This is deceitful and obnoxious, please stop them.
