Hello! I have a round trip flight booked from Chicago to Curacao on June 13-June 20. I booked this flight directly through the American Airlines Website. We originally had 6 people on our itinerary. I needed to contact American Airlines to remove ONE person from our itinerary. I accidentally dialed a customer service number that was one digit away from the true American Airlines Number. The man on the other end of the phone proceeded to tell me that my entire trip booking has been cancelled and that there is a 475$ per passenger to reinstate the tickets. When I logged into my American Airlines Account and App, sure enough, there was no trip to be found. He said he would reinstate the trip through a 3rd party consolidator and it would cost $475 per passenger without any guarantee that we will be able to be on the same flight. He said this payment needed to be done via wire transfer, and he would only hold the booking for 58 minutes. He used my booking code to access my flight and account information. He sent me emails from an email that is the exact email that I had previously gotten REAL, AUTHENTIC confirmation emails from American Airlines, which seemed very convincing. I felt suspicious making a wire transfer, so I checked my outgoing calls to ensure that I called the correct phone number. Low and behold, I called the wrong number on accident, but this man was able to make changes to my account. This was concerning to me because I then called the REAL American Airlines Number at 800-433-7300 and talked with a very nice woman, who said that my flight information was still there, and that the passenger I originally wanted taken off, was taken off. (D*** M******). American Airlines is not sure how this man was able to remove the one person from the reservation, but she put a passcode on my account so only I can access it. I am worried that the flight will be cancelled again. I have attached emails from the scammer that include communications about my tickets being "reissued", etc. This is very concerning to me that he was able to make these changes.
