I received a letter from someone claiming to be Paul Friedrick, Program Coordinator of the United Automotive Services. The letter was addressed to me by name at my address. It said that "according to their records" I had not contacted them regarding mechanical coverage on a vehicle that I bought recently. (They must have access to records of vehicle purchases, though I don't understand why this information is available to the public.) They gave me a phone number, which appears to be in North America, and asked me to contact them with my VIN and current mileage by April 11. (I was away at the time that this letter was received, so I'm guessing that it was sent about a week before the "due" date. The letter further states that if I neglect to replace "coverage," then I'll be financially liable for any and all repairs to my car. Then there's the usual baloney about being eligible for the coverage.

On the back of the letter, it reads, "This prescreened offer is of insurance based on information in your credit report indicating that you meet certain criteria. You must meet our criteria of insurability. If you do not wish to receive these call 888-567-8688 or contact Equifax at PO Box 740123, Atlanta, GA 30374 or TransUnion at PO Box 505, Woodlyn, PA 19094."

I got a letter signed by Paul Friederick telling me that I needed to call a number to verify my VIN and mileage on a car I recently bought because there was a warranty that I had not verified. The letter has a QR code and assigned a customer ID etc. to make it look for official but there’s no return address or anything to indicate the company’s details.

They ended the letter with the statement they “reserve the right to revoke your eligibility for service coverage if you do not meet our criteria. Call within 5 days to ensure eligibility”.

I received letter asking for the VIN and mileage of car I purchased last month.

“Our records indicate that you have not contacted us regarding mechanical coverage on the vehicle you purchased recently.

You are receiving this notice because a limited amount of time has been allotted to the expiration of your vehicle’s factory warranty coverage.

By neglecting to replace your coverage you will be at risk of being financially liable for any and all repairs after your factory warranty expires. However, you still may have time left to activate coverage on this vehicle before it’s too late. Final acceptance is subject to your ability to meet eligibility requirements.

This may be our only attempt to contact you about your additional mechanical repair coverage.

We reserve the right to revoke your eligibility for service coverage if you do not meet our criteria. Call within 5 days to ensure eligibility.

Sincerely,

Paul Frederick

Program Coordinator

United Automotive Services “

A letter was received around 2 months after purchasing a new car. This letter was in a blank envelope with one stamp and no return address. There is no business address on the letter. The letter was stating that I need to confirm my vehicles VIN and current mileage because my cars warranty is going to expire. (Not remotely even close to true as my car is fresh off the lot brand new). Letter says I have to call by a specific date and has a QR code as well for me to use to call. It was signed by “program coordinator” Paul Friedrick. I’m concerned about personal info being at risk as they do have the three credit bureaus listed…
