I received a pop up on my laptop about a problem with Windows(itlooked legitimate) with a phone number to call. He wanted to take remote access so he couldc orrect the problem. He installed Malware then said it would be $300. He wanted me to send a check with a tracking then call him with that number. I have not sent a check and will not be sending one. The phone number he used was 888-708-2111.

I experienced the same scam yesterday 4/8/2021. I called our computer consultant during the process. My computer consultant asked me to turn off the computer which I did. The person claiming to be Microsoft Support Department then kept on calling me repeatedly for 10 times until I blocked his call. Now I need to have my computer consultant to go over the computer to see if there is any malware being installed in my computer.

I received a pop up ad alerting me that my Microsoft security had been compromised and that I was supposed to call the number located in the insert of the alert, the alert stated that I was not to try to turn off the computer or my data would be lost. After calling the number and talking to the individual he said he needed access to my computer remotely to fix the problem and then gave me 3 choices for malware protection and that I was supposed to send a check by certified mail and later call with the tracking number. I later contacted Microsoft because things need not seem right and they said that they don't have pop up warnings or alerts and that I was being scammed. I put a stop on my check and shredded my credit cards and uninstalled their malware program from my computer
