Fake Check from PM Lattner MFG CO. For $5,550. This is a boiler maker company. Why is it associated with Washington Way Investments? SCAM. You only need to give the agent in the letter $3000.55 to claim your winnings of $950,000 which will be sent by special courier. On top of this it was sent to my deceased mother. BEWARE.

Just received a check for $5,550 from PM Lattner Mfg. CO. It is attached to a letter from Washington Way Investment 33 pellatreet New York Ny 10013. North American Lottery Sweepstakes unclaimed prize division. UK office 1575 Howard Ave London England. To claim the prize of &950,000 I only have to pay the agent $3,000.55 dollars. This looked like a scam from the beginning. The first check is not real and will not clear the bank then you are out the $3,000.55 to the agent. This is issued to my mother who died in December of 2018. SCAM. Beware!

An unfamiliar "check" of $6,880.00 came in the mail a few days ago. Turns out this check was fake, according to my bank. Because of my dumb mistake for depositing the check my checking account froze a few days later. My bank helped fix that so if this happens again I'll lose my account for good.

- Highland Mills, NY, USA

This was a phone lottery scam, sent to me by regular mail. The letter informed me that I was a winner in a sweepstakes in which I had never entered and a check for $6,890.00 was enclosed to pay "Government Service Tax and Insurance", the requested amount of which was only $4,500.55. To motivate me further, the letter stated I had won a total of $950,000.00. The incentive was to deposit the check that was sent in the mail and pocket the $2,389.45 difference in order to collect the larger "prize". The letter did not contain payment instructions as these scams typically do; instead, I was directed to contact my "file agent" for more details (undoubtedly the instructions necessary to send the $4,500.55 to the scammers).

There were multiple red flags. There were multiple addresses listed: Toronto, Ontario as the return address on the envelope, New York, NY at the top of the letterhead and a UK office in London, England. An organization called Washington Way Investment sent the letter and payment on behalf of the North American Lottery Sweepstakes and Compensation Draw organization, yet the check was drawn on the account of the PM Lattner Mfg. Co. located in Cedar Rapids, IA. The check was drawn on Hill Bank and Trust Company, which I found out was an online bank located in Weimar, TX. There were also various typos throughout the test: incorrect capitalization, punctuation and grammar.
