I recieved a text message about being a secret shopper for walmart. They wanted my information. Figured it was a scam.

received a check for 1825.63 & was told to buy 1500.00 worth of 200 and 500 Walmart Gift cards then of course scratch off the back and send them a picture. The letter said I could keep the other 325 as my payment. I knew this had to be some kind of fraud so I threw it away however, I began to receive harassing text messages & voicemails from this number (478) 322-0084, a number out of Georgia yet the check was from a person named Derek smith yet the check was signed by someone named Marty Marty. The check was from a bank in Texas whose business name was (oddly enough) “The Texas Bank.” They were rude, pushy & even threatening messages left for me all because I hadn’t responded yet nor deposited the check into my account.

Received a Chase check in the amount of $ 1,825.63. Was told to deposit the check in my bank, the funds would be available in a couple of hours. Buy two Walmart cards of $200 at one Walmart store and then purchase two more for $500 at a different store making $1400 altogether. Then scratch the cards to reveal the claim code, pin number and take a picture of the front and back of the cards with the purchase receipts, store location, address, name of attendants and how long it took to get service

My mother received a priority mail envelope containing a letter and a check for $2,420.00 to go purchase two thousand dollars worth of Walmart gift cards and was to keep $420.00. She was supposed to buy them and scratch off the back and send via text/email, a picture of both the gift cards and receipt. It just seemed to good to be true. She is living off of social security and this would hurt her immensely if it backfired. I researched it a bit and found that this has happened to numerous others. In many cases it did end up being fraud and the money was taken from innocent people to pay back the fraudulent check that was cashed. I hope reporting this will help take these criminals off of the street.

I got a text message about a stay at home job and I clicked on the link to fill out a application , I didn’t receive anything via email or text afterwards . All I received was an envelope on top of my mailbox with a check of 2,500 dollars and form that told me to go to Walmart and buy 5 cards of 400 dollars and send them a picture of the cards that I purchase after using them and doing a survey.

I received a envelope sent priority mail which included a letter stating I was chosen for the mystery shopper job Id applied for. It gave me a list of instructions and listed my first assignment. They also enclosed a check for 2,420.00 so that i could go purchase 5-400.00 giftcards. they ask you to take pictures front then back after you scratch off the code.

I was sent a check in the mail for $2,600 and was asked to deposit in my account and when it clear to go to Walmart and buy Walmart gift cards and send them the information on the back of the card I knew it was a scam who's going to give me $2,600

Received a check ($2420) and a letter with a personal shopper number. Told to deposit the check and to keep $420. Told to buy Walmart gift cards (5) $400 and to photograpoh the codes and send to scammer. Coaxed to do it fast with promise of a bonus.

I received a letter and offer of employment as a "secret" shopper at Walmart. The cashiers check for $2420.00 was deposited in my checking account with no trouble. I was to purchase Walmart gift cards totaling $2000.00 - email photos of the cards along with copies of the recipts after scratching off the back of the cards. I later found out it is a SCAM. Thank goodness I did not complete the transqaction. At the worst I have $2000.00 of gift cards to use at the local Walmart. If I had sent the photos along with the receipts I would be out the $$$ plus my checking account would have the $2420.00 deducted!

These scammers contact you through a job website as a mystery shopper. Once you fill out any information they contact you informing you that you’ve been selected as a mystery shopper and your name and address is needed to send the check and assignment. Once received they will tell you cash or deposit the check and keep $420 for yourself and buy $2000 in gift cards. 5 at $400 each. Then they say take pictures of them send the codes and receipts and send an email telling about the customer service and wait for the second assignment and if it goes well you’ll get a bonus of $150 bonus. So glad I didn’t fall for this!!! Please, Don’t let Anyone Else!!!!

- Olympia, WA, USA

Recieved several cashiers checks for $2420 to deposit to my account & then purchase Walmart gift cards as part of secret shopper program.

- Brazoria, TX, USA

Recieved a Prtority Mail Envelope in the mail. It contained the Survey and Research Document The word CONFIDENTIAL written diagonally in gray scale large letters. It also contained a cashiers check, made out to me for $2420.00. I was instructed to deposit or cash the check at my bank. When it cleared, I was to then go to Walmart and purchase 5 gift cards for $400.00 each. I was to keep the remaining $420.00 for my first payment and if I made the transaction within 2 days, I would receive a $150.00 Bonus check!

I was told to take a picture of each of the cards, front and back and scratch off the silver coating on the back to reveal the code.and the purchase receipts. I was told to keep the cards for my next assignment by comparing the service. I was to text immediately upon receipt of the check and instructions to the scammers phone number, and also after completion of the task, e mail and attach each of the photos of the cards, including sales receipts AND call the phone number. Then compose an e mail telling them about my experience purchasing the gift cards my EVALUATION in my own words. When everything is received by them, they will mail me my next assignment! That sums it up. The check will bounce, I will have to pay the bank back and somehow the scammers will clean out my account!
