Valve Corporation Employment Scam Reports & Reviews (9)

- Kendalia, TX, USA • May 30, 2023

On May 22, 2023, I was contacted by Michaela Humphrey who worked for Valve Software. She wanted to recruit me for a job at Valve as a data entry/CSR position. We did the interview online on Microsoft Teams but in direct messages, she later said that I was hired and sent me an offer letter from Raymond Miller from the HR department. They tried to get me to link an account from CoinZoom to pay for the equipment. When that failed due to my incompetence and timing, we attempted another app to purchase Bitcoin, about $300 of bitcoin. I gave her my driver's license and the W2 came which I put my Social Security Number on. I gave her my bank checking account number and routing number from my check. Finally she told me to go to my nearest bitcoin machine, which my mom stopped me and she did all the tricks to determine that Michaela was a scammer. She has not contacted back and we have done everything to get a lot of the money out of the checking account.

The same thing just happened to me i asked for proof that they wasn’t a scam and they didn’t answer me I’ve been trying get info on the company and i can’t find anything they are located in WA, i live in NY and they said that i could work from home and when the office open i can work in the office. I have a Federal bank and i called and asked them and they told me don’t anything unless i go face to face interview.

I was offered a job through email and text from a guy named Andrew Kim saying he works for Valve Software Corporation. He asked me to download Telegram and we did an online interview. I did some digging to make sure this wasn’t a scam but I found the people had been sent the exact same messages.

Same thing as others below. Had me download telegram, with Andrew Kim. "He" had texted my phone. Downloaded the app " I'm Mr. Andrew Kim from Valve Software Corporation. Valve Corporation is an American video game developer, publisher and digital distribution company headquartered in Bellevue, Washington. It is the developer of the software distribution platform Steam and the Half-Life, Counter-Strike, Portal, Day of Defeat, Team Fortress, Left 4 Dead, and Dota 2 games. This is strictly an online and work from home job pending when our office is set up in your area by next month and you can as well work from anywhere of your choice or anytime that does suit you. You can choose to work during Morning, Afternoon and even during evening...The pay-rate is $30.75 per hour while training is $15.75 per hour and will be getting payment weekly via check or direct deposit. Let me know if you are interested so we can proceed" did an interview then after when I found these complaints an he said HR has agreed to hire me and used the word enable multiple times not in the right contexts I ask for proof its not a scam "I assure you that you are safe and secure with us .Don't let your skepticism get in the way of a truly promising opportunity for you and I need you to know that we want to trust our candidates that’s why all newly employees undergo this task also a face to face meeting will be set up once all the working materials has been delivered for inspections okay" then I told him that is exactly what I found on scampulse. An he has never messaged me back. We need to report these people. It is disgraceful what they are doing

I had the same experience. I'd applied on Indeed.com, got a text from Derrick Kim with Valve Software in Washington State. Same bs as the comments before me. He had me download an app Telegram, and we communicated through that. They actually DID deposit $1,500 in my bank account, (which I have since closed) so I assumed it could have been legit. He wanted me to send the money to the vendor so I could get my new office equipment, he even gave me names and routing numbers. When I asked if it was legit he says; "don't let your skepticism get in the way of a truly promising opportunity for you and I need you to know we want to trust our candidates that's why all newly employees undergo this task also a face to face meeting will be set up once all the working materials has been delivered for inspections". I told him that I looked at the Valve website and he wasn't listed as an employee... he says; what do you mean?... (I thought my comment was pretty clear). Then he sent me a check for 3,900, and he wanted me to deposit it into my bank on a mobile app... I took it to the bank and they verified that the bank on the check would not guarantee the funds, so I told him I'm not doing it. The teller said she had another person with the same situation earlier that day... and I live in a very small town.
He's tried to contact me again this week by Telegram app and calling me but I'm not responding to him. I'd like to forward the information to the FBI. Maybe they'd be interested in looking into it.
live and learn huh?

Trying to find a job is the worse right now. There are so many scams. It's time to start putting people in jail.

You will see in the following email I was sent; improper spelling, misuse of punctuation, poor grammer, capital letters used incorrectly and not to mention there was a huge super sized logo (tacky and unprofessional considering the logo is already red).

I was in indeed.com looking for a job and come across this data Clerk page and I applied and about a day later I got a message from a lady named Nancy saying i need to download hangout to contact the manager named Kimberly Rice & so i did and that was how we communicated. Hangout is just another form of text messages. Then she asked me some interview questions the random like why do you want this job do you have experience Etc. Then I was told to wait while she sent the interview questions to HR. Then about an hour later I got a message stating I got the job based on experience but yet they didn't ask for no documentation this wasn't face to face she told me it was a home-based job. Then she stated that I was going to receive a check so I can purchase my mini office to set up so then I started asking questions saying is this a scam is this real and she stated that it was a legitimate job but I was sitting in the back of my head that no job would send you a check for them to receive it back as money it made no sense. So I started digging into scams the phone number I personally called valve software corporation which is located in Washington and they stated that they didn't have any other companies outside of Washington. The number that was popping up was a Florida number and then I got a FedEx and it was actually from Virginia so they bounce around everywhere. Anyways I started looking for scams and actually found that other people have gone through the same thing but with under different names. So I messaged that number back stating it was a scam and that I would be reporting them but I did not give any of them my personal banking information or nothing like that. Then I received the check in the mail and it's so fake they ask you to cash it in and to return the money to them and then couple days later your bank will call you stating that it was a fake check but I did not do that because no company would actually ask you to do that.

They have messaged me multiply times this month, the first business they used was ADP. I forgot the second one they used, the third was Valve software. They asked me to download a google hangouts. They said I could work from home making $28 an hour. I knew it was a scam when the person said that tomorrow we will discuss my jobs and duties and about the equipment being delivered to my home. When "tomorrow " came around, the person asked for my name address and email and once it was received they said " well that's all for today" I reminded them that they planned to discuss my duties and they blocked me. Also because the person planned to meet with me on google hangouts by 9am and was late logging in.
