Received a cold call from (215) 484-4384 with the individual posing as a representative from American Power & Gas (a company I recently - within the past 2 weeks - selected as my electric supplier @ $0.0649/kwh variable), stating that my account was "flagged yellow" and they needed to confirm information to avoid me being charged $125 per month (which was not in the original agreement). He somehow had all of my information (name, address, and phone number) and was about to transfer me to a third party for confirmation to "correct" my account and change status to green when I stopped him in his tracks by asking for supplier change confirmation number which he was unable to provide. I then asked him what rate I was to receive and he told me $0.086/kwh fixed for 7 months. I told him that wasn't going to work and I wanted the original deal and we began to argue back and forth (during this time, the "third party" got on the line, but I refused to speak to her until all my questions were properly addressed by the original caller,) When he finally realized I wasn't going to budge, he told me he would leave the supplier as is and I would just have to pay the $125 per month fee and then he abruptly hung up. I then went on-line on my electric distributor account to check my supplier and found it to be American Power & Gas of PA (AP&G of PA), I then called AP&G of PA using using the number from the PA Power Switch website, and confirmed that there were no flags on my account and everything was order as per our original agreement (and per the letter I had received in the mail from AP&G of PA), thus confirming to me that the cold call was a scam. I don't know how the scammer acquired all my information, nor due I know how he knew that I changed my electric supplier and to whom so soon so as to pose as them, but I suspect somehow he was able to acquire the information that is shared between all suppliers that we as consumers are unable to prevent from disclosure. I also suspect that had I continued with the phone call and confirmed the "new" switch with the third party, my supplier would have been changed to the new scam supplier.
