Don’t let beautiful branding fool you
In November 2023, I hired Jonae Bond of Truly Elevated Agency Inc. to handle the branding and website development for six of my businesses. I paid over $10,000 upfront—in full—because I believed in her, her brand, and what we could build together as two Black women entrepreneurs.
I’m a full-time entrepreneur, a mother, and a caregiver for my sick mother. Every dollar I paid came from the long nights and early mornings it took to build my catering company from scratch. I poured everything into this investment because it wasn’t just about websites—it was about building my legacy.
But what did I receive in return?
• A basic Wix site that didn’t meet any of the standards promised
• No completed websites for my other businesses
• Broken promises, excuses, and constant delays
• Weeks and months of silence despite me following up professionally
• And eventually, a low-ball refund offer—after months of being ignored
I remained patient. I was respectful. I gave grace. But when someone takes your hard-earned money, your trust, your time—and treats you like you don’t matter? That’s not just unprofessional, that’s disrespectful and unethical.
What cuts the deepest is that this was a Black woman doing this to another Black woman. I wanted to see her win. I believed in her. I supported her fully. And still, she didn’t value me—or my dream.
As a result of this betrayal, I’ve filed a legal claim for a refund, damages, and lost income. I’ve lost valuable time I’ll never get back—time that should’ve been spent growing my businesses or caring for my mom, not chasing someone to do what they were paid in full to do.
To my fellow entrepreneurs:
Support smart, not blindly. Do your research. Ask for receipts.
Don’t let beautiful branding fool you into trusting someone who doesn’t operate with integrity.
And to Jonae Bond:
You didn’t just fail to deliver—you failed another Black woman who trusted you. You didn’t just delay my business—you disrespected the life I’ve fought to build while holding up my family behind the scenes.
This wasn’t just a contract.
This was my purpose, my livelihood, my legacy—and you treated it like it meant nothing.
I share this because I refuse to be silent. I stand for accountability, integrity, and excellence—especially in our community. And I’ll continue building, despite this setback, because that’s what strong women do.
