My mother needed her US passport renewed and I helped her over the phone. This url came up and looked legit. It was only when I hit send at the end that i realized that this fee of $89.00 did not include the passport fees. So what were we paying for? Amex denied the purchase, and called us after it was attempted twice. Figuring it was a scam, I called the toll free number, and was assured that they don't receive the credit card info and social security info if the sale was not concluded, and that even when it is, it gets encrypted. I don't believe them so we are now making sure nothing happens to her data. Thank goodness she didn't lose money, but so much work securing all her info.

Father (elderly) used this website https://www.travel-docs.org/ to renew passport. They charge a fee total of $128.95 (for the renewal form and insurance). In order to get the form sent to you or link to the govt website, you must pay first. They will have your email address and bank or credit card information. The renewal form is actually FREE to download or fill out online via the official government website. I asked my father to cancel his credit card/bank card and get a new one. No additional fraudulent activity was seen on his card. I will have him create a new email address to avoid additional scams that come through by email.
