I contacted Trademark Clutch in order to get my businesses logo TM’d. Their website says they work with the USPTO. Upon starting, an initial fee of $35.00 is required. After they call and verbally fill out paperwork, they send you an email to digitally sign. Upon completion of this step, they send it to the USPTO once you agree to pay the fee for however many classes of the TM that is needed. Ours was (2). They charge $350.00 per class, but after negotiating, they can down to 550.00. Once submitted, and the wait is over, they draft a letter that looks like it comes from the USPTO stating that the trademark has been approved and will be sent to an underwriting attorney and that we need to provide an attorney of our own to continue. Trademark Clutch offers to provide an attorney at half the cost for 6-9 months, being $750.00 for 6 months and $1200.00 for 9. I thought this extremely unlikely as I know that in constitutional law, you can represent yourself without a lawyer. I contacted USPTO and they told me that it was a scam to get more money, that trademark clutch did send in tue paperwork, but that the USPTO would not charge more than $250.00, nor would they send a letter stating someone needs to hire a lawyer to proceed.
