I received a voice message from a “Mark Anderson,” who was calling on behalf of his “law firm.” I called him back. Based on true information available online about a trademark that I’d previously owned, Mark told me he represented a client who wanted to claim my trademark for themselves. Therefore, I would need to let him know right away if I planned on reapplying for the trademark.

The scam is that he immediately offered his legal services to assist in this application (for a fee). This struck me as odd, as that would mean he would’ve canceled his work for this “client” within a matter of seconds.

Curious, I researched the website, which is clearly all created by AI. Even the headshots of the team members (who all have non-descriptive bios with no law schools) are AI generated.

In short, this is a new tactic by trademark “lawyers” who are seeking new business by creating false stories to create anxiety and therefore result in “legal need.”

This would’ve cost me around $1000 if I had pursued the ruse.
