I received a random call from Student Loan Resource Center (SLRC) letting me know that they work to help students that have loans apply for forgiveness or reduced payment and complete a loan consolidation with "Navient" Federal Student Loans Department on their behalf. I was contacted by Christy Ottis from the processing department who asked me to go ahead and enroll at [email protected]. Then they sent me an email to provide certain personal information about my Navient loan in order to update and monitor my student loan application. I asked if it would be necessary to go through all this process, in my case they said yes they will work with Navient (Federal Student Loan Dept) to process my application and revert back to me as soon as the process is completed and provide my new payment plan. I was told that I would be saving over 1/3 over the life time of my student loans. Basically, Christy mentioned that after making a total of 240 consecutive payments (20 years) then the remainder of my loan will be forgiven. It turns out after I gave SLRC three payments of 356.33 for three month (1,068.99 in total) for the service fee. Since then, I am unable to reach then again. I do have a lower monthly payment with Navient but the life time of the loan is longer and after doing the calculations with Christy Ottis I will be spending less over the lifetime of the loan! I have called SLRC several times to speak with someone about my account I kept getting a busy tone and never receive a call back. On Feb 28 2017, I had a phone call from Juilan from SLRC stating that he could lower my monthly payment for my student loans. He asked for income and personal information to ensure an accurate payment estimate. I submitted personal information for myself and my husband and the paper work was processed. Through several email correspondences the paper work was filed and the payment was planned. The paper work all look official and similar to the US Department of Education paperwork. Therefore, I thought it was legitimate. I had to pay them 1161.00 in total: March 3 = 349.00, March 24= 349.00, April 17 = 349.00, then 19.00 monthly payments from April until September. I recieved an email that they had been reported to the Federal Trade Commission also, signalling the scam.

I am not sure if I have become compromised from this, or if I dodged a bullet, but I recieved a call saying I was eligable for a loan forgivness program passed by Congress last year. A woman with an accent had called me from a New York phone number and asked me how much I owed in federal student loans. I estimated over $10,000 and she confirmed that I could be approved for the program, then put me on hold and I was transfered to another number from out of state. A different woman "Eichell" asked me how much money I made and gave me this schpeel about being able to consolidate my loans so I only had to pay about $40 per month after making an initial payment of $399 (RED FLAG this didn't sound right) and then I only had to pay 10,000 of the total loan back.

She emailed me some paperwork to sign with an e-signature and the whole process felt legitimate, the documents even looked legit as I skimmed through them... At any rate, she e-mailed more documents and was able to accurately tell me on the phone the amount I owed in loans and then put me on hold to see if I was "approved"... which of course I was. "Eichelle" or whoever she was then put trasfered me to another number with a recorded message (but I cannot remember it). A minute later I got one last e-mail with instructions to e-mail them all my student loan login details with security questions.

This is an elaborate scheme that many desperate people in debt could fall for! I tried searching for this service on Google and it yielded no results. The "toll free" number on one of the e-mails appears to be from a different business altogether. Unfortunatly, I may have comprised my bank card and SS# because of this.
