Riley's Asphalt (Patrick and Brock Riley)- is not a licensed business in the state of Virginia.

On April 4, 2024, a truck pulled into my driveway while I was working outside and asked if I needed some work done on my driveway. My driveway has cracks (pictures included after Mr. Patrick Riley did the work). Patrick said that he could restore my driveway to a new condition and pulled out a binder with many pictures of work that he had done.

Patrick stated that he had a system that he sprays on the driveway that gets in all the cracks and sort of acts like a leveling agent and would make the cracks disappear and save me from having to replace my driveway. I mentioned that I had gotten several quotes for a new asphalt driveway and that $9,000.00. Patrick said that he would do the work for $1,250.00 and put a 5 year warranty on the estimate.

Patrick and his son Brock did the work and I questioned him about a few things along the way and he assured me that if I was not satisfied that he would come back in a few days and make everything right (the enclosed pictures show my driveway several weeks after he did the work).

I wrote Patrick a check to Riley's Asphalt for $1,250.00 and he left. A short time later he called me and stated that at his bank that he could not accept a check that was greater than $1,000.00. So he came back to my house and gave me the first check back. Then I wrote Patrick a check for $1,000.00 and started to write a check for an additional $250.00. He said that he could not deposit two checks that were more than $1,000.00 so he wanted the $250.00 in cash. I never carry cash but did happen to have only $200.00 which I gave him and he rewrote the contract for $1,200.00.

I've included text messages with this complaint that shows that Patrick said that he would come back to my house and then he just "ghosted" me. Yesterday, I called my bank to try to get a stop payment on the $1,000.00 check. Today I called the sheriff's office, the Better Business Bureau and the Department of Professional Occupations and Licensing Standards. Was told they could not find evidence that this company has ever existed and that Riley's Asphalt is not licensed in the state. Patrick and Brock Riley are not licensed in the state of Virginia either.

Yesterday, I did a one star Google review for Riley's Asphalt and soon after was contacted by the owner of the company. Unfortunately the Riley's Asphalt that I reviewed was in Colorado and not Virginia. The owner of the Colorado company contacted me and said that this other non legit company on the East Coast had stolen their company logo. People have been calling this Colorado based company thinking that it is this fraudulent Riley's Asphalt. I deleted the Google review after speaking with the owner who expressed his own frustration because he gets the negative phone calls and Google reviews.

The person came to the door saying he had a job that he completed in the area and was looking to see who else needed the same type of work. It was to fill in the holes and cracks in the asphalt/black top and then seal it. What happened instead is that he placed two areas of asphalt in a small heap and left the rest of the driveway in the same condition it was before he came. The heaps are at the steps and anyone coming or going can trip and hurt themselves. He promised that he would come back to fix it and the rest of the driveway but then he never did, nor does his company call us back. It was very poor-quality work, and it was money stollen for a job he and the company claimed was completed.
