I individual using name of Rick Leonard, emails of [email protected]., on RVUSA, then switched to email of [email protected] calling himself Chad Grant, preys on people desperately trying to sell items. Our travel trailer. Said he was out of the Country and urgently wanted our trailer for his dad, would have his secretary Fed Ex to us the exact asking price and wanted my address, phone etc. Very upsetting can't sell anything anywhere anymore due to messed up people like this one.

He contacted us regarding our classic car, same story as above, purchasing for his dad, will send certified check. Googled his email and found all the other scams he’s tried to run on people. Glad we found this info before any damage was done. Thank you!

It's been just over a month since Rick Leonard tried to scam me on a car I have advertised on Classic Autotrader. He did it again, today. He doesn't even bother to change his name. His BS story is almost always the same. Basically, he asks some inane questions. If you reply, he tells you that he wants the car, but for some reason or other he says he can't view the car personally. He offers to send you a check for the purchase price. The first time he did this, I suspected it was a scam. So, I Googled his name and email address and found this website. I think if I let the scam run its course, he would send a bogus check for more than I'm asking and ask that I pay the shipping company for him for "x" amount of dollars. The "shipping company" is himself and then you're out that cost because you paid with a real transaction. Anyone wanting to buy your vehicle and needs to have it shipped would set up and pay for their own shipping.

Within about 24 hours after putting up my ad for my classic car on Autotrader, I received an email via Autotrader from Rick Leonard. He asked a few questions about the car. He wanted to know if it was in good condition, how many owners, what was my last selling price (whatever that means) No phone number or location. I replied with the answers to his questions. His from email address was different than the one he wanted me to use for the reply. I used my email, but gave nothing else other than my first name. A few hours later, I get a lengthier email. He wants to overnight a certified check and "when it clears" he will send movers to pick up the car. He said he couldn't see it in person due to his job. He didn't leave a phone number. He wanted my address and phone number. This seemed odd. So, I figure this is some sort of a scam and Google his name. I really didn't expect to find anything as his name is very common. To my surprise, this site was the first result with his name! I can't believe all the postings on this guy. You would think he would at least change the name he's using. By the way, that was another thing I thought was odd. His email address had a name in it, but it had nothing to do with Rick Leonard. I'm just going to ghost him. I am including screen shots of his emails with identifying information redacted.

I had exactly the same experience. He said he was buying the car for his dad. He said he'd send a certified check. I asked him for an email and his name the carrier he'd be using and a week later he said he thought his secretary had sent the information. I sent him an email back after I read all your posts there were a lot of scam pulses out for him and I was not interested in selling my car to him.

Contacted me Via email, states he will send Certified check for vehicle, too busy for test drive, next email says he's happy I'm selling him my car, now he's going to add extra for me to give to transporter. I have ask for his contact info " CRICKETS", so I told him I had another offer for cash, and wished him the best.

He sent an email right after I posted my car and is asking for a lot of information. He stated that he will send the check and then have someone pick up the car.

I’m beyond grateful to have found this site with an easy search just from his email [email protected]. I had just posted my listing on auto trader. He had mentioned the same thing as the others above. Hope this helps another person as well.

Email from Rick Leonard with an email address listed as [email protected] wants to buy my car and add another $50 for me to remove my ad and provide him with my name, address, phone, car make and model, and last asking price. He said he would overnight me a certified check and after it clears the bank, he will send someone to pick it up. He said his work schedule was too “tight” to schedule a test drive or meet in person. Glad I was able to find this sight and see pretty much the same scam he had going with others trying to see their vehicles.

Listed my car on auto trader for $20,000, he sent an email asking about the car, then sent a follow up to my response, claiming he wanted to purchase the car, that he would send a certified check overnight through fedex, that he would add $300 for me to hold the vehicle, and that there would be an additional amount on the check to be given to the movers. He sent me his ID, its a California ID but looks slightly altered where his name is. He's sending me a check, but then I found this review and now I'm even more sure than I was before that it's too good to be true. I'm gonna see what his check looks like and then update here.

I think we have the same skin with a rick Leonard also. Our check is supposed to come tomorrow at 3 PM. Just wondering if you have an update on your situation

- San Jose, CA, USA

Sends a check for more than you are selling an item (Ebay, Craigslist). Asks you to send money via Walmart to mover to ship the goods. Check is counterfeit. I lost $***.
