A LinkedIn contact posted a Mystery Shopper job opportunity on 2/12/2023 that fit my schedule, and I quick-applied to it. I was contacted via email by a director with a company based in Austin, or so I thought. I did much research, but not enough. I began making purchases at Apple stores and sending them according to the "director." He replenished my credit card, but several days later, the payment was rejected, and this happened multiple times over a couple of weeks. After receiving a cashier's check for my services that came back from my bank on 3/4/2023 as "altered/fictitious," I dug online more and knew all my apprehensive feelings were legitimate, and blocked the scammer and began dealing with my creditors for scam/fraud and making reports to law enforcement and other entities. I notified LinkedIn, and presumed the contact's account was likely compromised when the job opportunity originally went out. There looked to be similar people who had something happen to them when I did LinkedIn searches; their posts are there. I reached out through LinkedIn InMail to people at Reality Based Group, but wasn't answered; I know they deal with this problem already, though.
