Type of a scam Employment
I got an email from a guy who called himself Rick Murphy thanking me for filling out an application on their company website. I had been looking for a job recently but did not remember doing that. I will copy and paste the exact email he originally sent me at the end. He attempted to call me every day in the morning which was odd because I had given him a time to best get me and that was way out of the time slot. He left a voicemail saying “this is Rick Murphy please call me back “ but didn’t leave a phone number but I had call I’d on my phone. Anyways I tried calling that number back and the first few times it would just keep on ringing and there was never an answering machine or anything. The last few times I called it would ring twice and then a busy signal. I emailed him telling him I tried calling there was no answer or answering machine blah blah and never heard back until a few days later when he emailed me saying he’s tried calling and didn’t get me and to call him back on the number I had already been calling so he did finally give me a number but not until towards the end of about 5 days. I then tried a few more times and got the same result when I called so I sent him an email saying I’m not sure what to do as I’ve tried calling. I then tried looking up the company and the only one I could find was in the UK. So all of those things together made me realize it’s a scam so I want to warn people. Luckily I didn’t and would never give out any banking info and I’m not sure how he got my information to begin with although I have been applying to a bunch of places through Indeed so maybe they had a fake add or something. I’m gonna copy and paste the exact words from the first email he sent me so you know what to look out for:
