I was approached with a suspicious job offer after creating a public profile in on the CalJobs website. The job did not match my work profile and the offer was completely unsolicited,

I was unable to find any real record of this company despite it having a web presence. The website associated with this company is incredibly vague and lists an address it doesn’t seem to exist at.

I was approached about an at-home date entry clerk positions via email. I told them I wasn't available at that time a few months ago. I emailed them recently still thinking it was legitimate, but upon researching the company, it is obviously a fake company.

It was a job posting on Caljobs and they reached out via email. After the interview process, I received an email from [email protected] and [email protected] that I am hired and received a hiring packet with job offer, W4 form, and direct deposit authorization form. I filled out and signed the job offer and W4 form. We proceeded to the 7 day training (3 hours a day with a compensation of $22/hour) and after the training he asked me again about my bank details and I told him that I prefer for him to mail me an actual check. He said it was fine, but after a few minutes he told me that they have some technical issues with their shipping department and could not mail the check and it would have to be sent electronically. When I told him I can wait she went offline on teams and then he stop responding to my messages. After the emails all communication were through Microsoft Teams, and he said that their company policy is that employees cannot talk to each other on a call and only through Microsoft Teams messages.

I applied for a remote data entry job with a company called "Progress E-Commerce Trade Company." The interview was conducted entirely over chat—no phone or video calls. They claimed to offer paid training at $22/hour, and the only “training” assignment involved looking up financial info on Yahoo Finance.
After completing that task, I was sent an email with a job offer letter, a direct deposit authorization form, a W-4, and a request for the front and back of my ID. However, the company has no legitimate online presence. Their website looks suspicious, their domain was recently created, and there are no real employee profiles, office listings, or verified business registration.
When I asked for a phone call to verify before submitting sensitive documents, they avoided it.
I did not send any personal information, but I’m reporting this to help others avoid falling for it. This appears to be an identity theft or fake check scam in progress.

Be warned - this is a fake job poster that contacts you through the CALJOBS website. They will send over an email claiming they have found your application/resume through the job site and want to consider you for the Data Clerk position. If you agree to move forward to the next steps, they will set up a chat interview with you over Microsoft Teams, and you will chat with someone named Daniel Homack or Ronald Muise (I do believe these are randomly generated names), at the '@progresse-commercetradecompany.biz' address. After a lengthy chat 'interview' (mine lasted about 2 hours) they'll claim you will receive an email after you've been deemed a strong candidate, which seems to come the following day. However, any inquiries into the job beyond that point will either won't be answered, or a new 'interest' email with the exact same wording will be sent to you again. Please be careful and ignore any contact from this company!

A fake job post from CalJobs after an EDD interview

I had filed for unemployment and as a requirement, I have to post my resume on CalJobs. I did this on April 2, 2025. The next day, April 3, 2025, I got contacted by Ronald Muise saying that he saw my resume on CalJobs and thought I would be a good fit for their Data Entry Clerk position. I replied about expressing interest, the next email seemed like it was a bot or autogenerate message describing the job requirements, pay, etc. Next email, again, sounded like a bot email invited me for an interview and was sent a link that took me to Microsoft Teams. The interview was text the whole time and all of his questions were just auto-generated. It wasn't a conversation at all. Next day, April 4, 2025, I received an email saying I got the position and to fill out the form that they attached. The form didn't have the company's name on it and it was a generic work employment form. When I replied asking why that was the case, I didn't get a reply and haven't had one sense. Very shady.
