I offered to foster a puppy and told them I didn’t drive. The puppy was beautiful and was brought in from Texas and dropped at my place by a volunteer. 3 days later I told the coordinator that he was too active and was nipping me so maybe another foster would be great. Unfortunately 2 days later this beautiful puppy fell sick with vomiting from 3:30 AM- 6 AM and I panicked and texted Uma and my other points of contact. I texted asking her what I should do since the emergency services I called suspected parvovirus. She outright dismissed my fears and said I shouldn’t stress or panic that he doesn’t have bloody diarrhea so it’s not parvo. No need to take him to the vet. 3 hours on the puppy was in a corner totally immobile and I couldn’t let him be that way. I took him to ER and informed PRA I was doing so. They called me & said they wouldn’t pay anything since this wasn’t their approved vet (who was in Alexandria, VA while I am in Baltimore). I nevertheless took him and paid for the visit and he was detected parvo positive. The vet told me the booster dose wasn’t given for this puppy while Uma maintained it was. As hospitalization is at a minimum of ~$4000 for such cases and the rescue had his medical records the vet called them. She told me the vet said outpatient treatment was fine while the vet told me inpatient is the best. That was my first red flag. I waited for 7 hours outside the clinic waiting for the poor puppy. When I took him home he wasn’t better and parvo is a death sentence. He had diarrhea that night and we stayed up all night again. The clinic called me the next day and told me he tested positive for hookworms and another parasite that I should bring him in. I did it again at my own expense since he appeared slightly better so I thought the treatment was working. They released him after an hour and Uma was informed of this by the vets office. After bringing him home his condition seemed worse-no movement, no water or food or medication intake. I called the ER again and took him there as they recommended. I did call Uma before that and she didn’t answer so I texted her saying he needed inpatient treatment and would she approve as nobody took the puppy to their approved vet in Alexandria. She said she was on hold and I went ahead and admitted him. She then called me saying “ I shouldn’t call her that she didn’t know what to do that I was irritating her, that if I [censored]ING didn’t know how to dive I shouldn’t [censored]ING foster. That the puppy was fine when he came but within a few days with me thus happened. I was [censored]ING calling everyone and the vets office apparently didn’t communicate with her and misinformed her. “ I was stunned at the language and just said ok. The puppy was hospitalised and the vet called me the next morning informing me of his treatment and that I could get birding updates as it’s difficult for a doctor to inform multiple contacts. I called later (after 10 hours) and the hospital told me Uma told them no updates should be given to anyone but her! I am sure she put him down since costs for parvo hospitalization run high and she didn’t even reimburse me for what I paid for the puppy’s outpatient visit (~$700)
I hope this demon can be stopped

She’s a murderer, killed my foster pup I guess

- Washington, DC, USA

I fostered a puppy from this organization. I picked up the puppy 8/7 after some mass email communication for all fosters. The first strange thing was they did not reply individually to my questions. The second, was that after I expressed doubt in my ability to take the dog, they basically forced me to take her any way. The third is that they did not have the supplies to support the dog the original email said they would. I did not realize until I was onsite that the adoption fee for the dog was a $500 donation which is outrageous for a rescue. This does not include spay and neuter like other reputable organizations.

They still did not do any individual follow-up, and when I sent their entire team questions and the update on the puppy there was no answer to my questions and request for reimbursement for the supplies they guaranteed. I did not receive a response until I called them out for posting the photo of the dog I sent them indicating they in fact received my email. After I called them out, I received an immediate response and a phone call from Uma at 10pm on a Monday (8/10). Uma is who is described as a scammer throughout the below.

I asked them for paperwork on the dog’s vaccinations which they said she had received. They said they would not be able to provide paperwork until after I take her to her scheduled Vet visit. Uma also reimbursed me over text via Apple Cash. Another shady practice.

I then did some investigating.

The Yelp and Google pages for the “organization” keep disappearing. You’ll notice all the Yelp reviews are from within the last 30 days although the org has been operating far longer than that. https://www.yelp.com/biz/pet-rescue-alliance-alexandria-8?osq=pet+rescue+allianc... The Yelp page details many unnerving experiences. I’m now in a position where I am nervous about both my safety as well as the dog’s.

The homepage of the org says they are 501(c)3 non-profit organization, but they do not appear in the IRS database.

I have kept screenshots of everything and made sure to keep conversations in writing. I did not answer the phone call and kept it to text.

This woman transports 50+ dogs frequently and places them with fosters. At $500/dog, This woman is pocketing $25K per transport.
