PayPal Imposter Reports & Reviews (261)

- Vermilion, OH, USA • May 04, 2026

I received an email from PayPal claiming I purchased $894 in Cryptocurrency. I do not have a PayPal account and did not make a purchase.

- Lakeside Marblehead, OH, USA • Apr 01, 2026

They send you an email using the real PayPal email address saying to contact them at this fake number if it was "unauthorized". Then someone who barely speaks English answers the phone without any usual corporate customer care "press this number for this directory" coming up first.

I received an email from [email protected], which is an email account from which I have received legitimate emails before, so it came in as a "trusted sender." It was addressed to a NAME (not me) and indicated that a recurring payment of $1499.99 was initiated to [email protected] and if this was not initiated by me, I should call (805) 500-8467 to report it.

I was sent an email addressed from ([email protected]) to "Invoice Update ([email protected]) saying that an automatic payment for $799.99 USD to Apple for a Macbook M4Pro 1TB computer was inactive and that the billing cycle starts in March 2027 with payments of 1799.00 JPY each time for a MasterCard that is not identified by the last four of any card I own.

Received a fraudulent email pretending to be from PayPal. It notified be of a $1499.00 charge that I needed to call (805)-500-3178 to cancel. This email appeared to be quite convincing, but upon review I noticed that it had a soft fail on SPF. The email did not have any of my personal information and referred to me as "Apple Store."

- Syracuse, NY, USA • Oct 09, 2025

i received an email from paypal stating my automatic payment is no longer active for the purchase of an iPhone 17pro max from apple. In the note from the seller it states: "A transaction of 1499.00 USD was detected. If this wasn't you, please call (800) 500-3178 to stop payment." . Normally Paypal will send me a notification of any charges on my account and there were none. Also in the seller notes the numbers were bold and the word if was right next to the period of the previous sentence. Finally, 2 more details: it says at the amount paid was in japanese yen which is clearly a scam since i live in NY and visa "used" isn't my card number.

I checked my paypal and no pending charges or recurring payments have been made.

Basically got an email from "PayPal" saying that a recurring payment on an Iphone had been restarted on my account to the tune of ¥4999.00 JPY. I called the number in the email to report it, and despite the sender email appearing to be legit, the number I called led me to an indian sounding guy who immediately raised suspicion in the casual way that he presented himself. I hung up and reported it here. I don't know how they got the email to come from PayPal's legit email, but the whole thing is very strange.

Multiple emails: 1) Setting up a special account to buy crypto via PayPal, 2) Authorization codes sent to authorize account set up (even though I never initiated a setup), 3) sent "invoice" and said to contact them if any questions.

I never clicked any of the links, and went though my PayPal account to verify that none of these transactions/invoices had taken place.

- Springfield, IL, USA • Aug 18, 2025

Email from "PayPal" stating business is being charged for "BTC" service.

I received an email supposedly from PayPal saying that they are alerting me of a $896.35 transaction from gemini.com and they are advising me to call (805)509-8722 within 30 days for fraud protection or accept an invite to create a PayPal account for developer purposes. I already have a PayPal account and a PayPal debit card and i receive all communication through the app so i know this is not legit.

- Minneapolis, MN, USA

email said” a transaction of $882.97 to gemini.com was detected. If this wasn't you call 805-500-6642 to stop payment.”

- Toledo, OH, USA

I received an email from this person that looks like they are from PayPal saying that I purchased Norton Total Coverage Antivirus Plus software for $312.98 using my PayPal account. I checked my PayPal account and no activity is on it yet. They have a phone number to call to if you think this is fraudulent which is 818-612-1064. I think they want you to call to then try to give them your information. Just wanted to find out if others have reported this.

I also received one last week for PayPal saying I purchase Bit Coin for $449.88 using PayPal. Someone has my email and is trying to get me to contact them and I just ignore it.

I can forward these emails if helpful to your investigation.
