We received a call at just after 6:00pm on a Friday evening, October 8, 2021 from someone claiming to be calling from PG&E, our local power utility company. The person had a relatively thick accent but sounded very official and was telling us that we had missed a couple of payments and our power was going to be shut off within half an hour if we didn't pay the balance due.

I have spent 35 years in the consumer protection industry so I have a lot of experience with this type of thing but I can admit that this scammer had me "hooked" for a little while. I pressed for more details and even asked for a supervisor who was also very convincing but these people have a very believable response for nearly every question I had for them. In the end, when they asked me who we bank with, I said "Goodbye!"

Be careful and don't let someone bully you into making a bad decision like I almost did!

A person of Middle Eastern accent called our office and informed us our power will be turned off in an hour due to non-payment. We don't have PGE for power and our bills get paid by the landlord and not our office. SCAM!!
