I found Cyndy Lajoie online when researching Dalmatian breeders because, at the time, my husband and I were looking into getting one possibly in the summer of 2021. I found her Facebook page, she seemed to have a good reputation and lots of prior clients that had supported her. I reached out through email telling a bit about myself and if we could get in touch to chat. Through a series of emails, we set up a time to chat, and on March 9 at 1:11 pm, we have our first over-the-phone chat and discuss her business (in the screenshot of our personalized messaging, you'll see that she says she'd like to "take a break from all the drama". That drama she is referring to is that another prior client of hers was trying to report her for fraud at the time. She explained to me it was a disgruntled customer that wanted to pay extra to be placed higher on her waiting list. Since she had such a large following at that time, I wanted to assume the best of her and give her a chance to explain on the phone.) . I do not possess a transcript of the conversation, but how she explained her business was:
1: she receives a deposit of $300, dating the time/date it was received.
2: my place on her list depended on what date/time other people ahead of me placed their deposits
3: Puppy picking was on a first come first served basis, so the first person who gave a deposit last that is still waiting on a puppy, got priority, then the next one (and so on and so forth)
4: She would initiate contact with those people on the list and arrange for them to pick. In the files I have attached, you'll see a Facebook post I screenshotted where she actually explains that to somebody in the comments section of that post.
She said she wasn't sure how many people were on that list, but she assured me that I would definitely be able to receive a puppy in the summer of 2021. She said once she had received payment, I would be officially on her waiting list, and she would get in touch with me when it was my turn to pick.
As that summer goes by, she never comes in contact with me despite my attempts to try and call her (so I could ask about what was going on that summer with her puppies). I also sent her an email on July 15 asking about the litter, and she never responds.
I send her a Personal Message over the Facebook messaging app on September 14, 2021, at 7:56 pm asking that since I did not receive a puppy summer of 2021 if I could be transferred to a list for a spring 2022 puppy. She answers back two days later that that would be fine, and we discuss when approximately we would carry out that business transaction.
In October on her Facebook page (that I can no longer access) she says that she has lost her puppy picking list, and the list of deposits because she has been locked out of her email due to some other disgruntled client reporting her for fraud. On October 28, 2021, at 7:46 pm I message her my screenshot of that email and the contract she gave me on April 11. She messages back the next day and we make arrangements for a possible picking taking place in May-July of 2022.
May 11 2022 at 2:23 pm I send her a message asking for an update as to when approximately I would get a chance to pick up a puppy. She responds nearly 3 hours later saying that one of her dogs is bred and due May 29th. I proceed to not hear anything back from her. June 14th, 2022 I messaged her asking for another update, and she never responds. I send her a message on June 20th (which was deleted later deleted by myself) that because of her constantly ghosting me that I no longer wanted to do business with her anymore, but I would like my deposit back because I was still owed it based on the circumstances and the outline she gave me in her contract. I reached out to her on June 25 2022 and June 30, 2022, but she still continues to ignore me. I've also included screenshots from her personal Facebook account of her purchasing 3 tattoos for herself around the same time I officially requested my deposit back, so she was definitely within her financial means to do so, but chose not to.
On October 18th, 2022, I sent a request through my bank account to her bank account to receive the $300 back, and later that night she sends me pictures of Dalmatian puppies asking if I would be interested in them. The next day I messaged her that I would like my deposit back, and she messages me 2 hours later that when those 3 puppies in the picture are sold, she would refund me my money.
In November, these puppies were due to be picked up around November 12, 2022 (at least according to her), so of course, I never hear from her. I sent a message on November 29 that she needs to provide me with a more definite timeline as to when she will provide that refund. She never responds. On December 18, 2022, I decided I'd had enough of waiting for a refund so I sent her a message warning her that if she did not provide me a refund by January 10 I'd be reporting her business. She sends me back a hostile message on December 25 that since I never reached out to her first to pick up a puppy, I was not entitled to my deposit back (which was a clause not included in her contract). She then ends the message by saying that she will be more stable in January financially. Even though I provided her with a deadline and I would like to continue to stick to my word (like I have this whole time), I don't believe she will ever refund me that money. What I would find more satisfying than receiving my $300 back would be that she no longer scams other people.
