OfficialVIN Reports & Reviews (8)

I listed a vehicle on Craigslist for sale and received a phone call. Unable to answer, I received a text asking if my vehicle was still available. They then asked what day would be okay to come take a look at it, stating they would gladly drive to me (~4 hour drive). Red flags began when they said they were originally from PA, but that they recently moved about 30 minutes outside of a town in my state that is about 2 hours from any other town. After that, they asked me to run a quick history report so that they could be sure "everything is OK with the vehicle" and that they wanted me to "relay the report" to their strangely long email. I googled the site and discovered a long list of VIN Check scams wherein you enter your CC info to "Buy a VIN Report" but you don't actually get anything and they now have all of your CC information. I asked them if they would like the info to complete the report themselves and I would take the dollar amount off of the purchase of the vehicle and they called me names and stopped responding. Watch out, its a real person with poor grammar and English skills, but they tried hard.

- Eagle River, AK, USA

Person contacted me posing as a buyer for my vehicle. They then request a VIN check from the website that casts $18.95. Once you send them the B.S report, they disapear. Very scetchy way to do business.

- Chapel Hill, NC, USA

Contacted via Craiglist about a used car, asked for me to run this report. Whole interaction stunk of scam. When I offered them the VIN to run themselves, they went silent. Clearly an attempt to steal credit card details.

"Would you mind getting me a background check on the car from vinncheckpremium.com

this report was recommended to me by brother who’s a car dealer - it just shows if there are any major accidents and if the title is clean.

If you can email me that report to [email protected] I will keep an eye out for it then schedule a time to come meet you"

Scammer expressed interest in buying my car and wanted me to get a report from premiumvinchecker.com and send it to him/her and then we could set up a time to meet.

I am selling a car online on Craigslist and this is my first time doing something like this and this person contacted me and seemed interested in buying my car. Then she wanted me to run a report of my VIN number and she provided a link where I could do so. Once I did what she wanted she never contacted me again.

- San Francisco, CA, USA

I received a call about my car for sale. I called back and got voicemail. Then received a text asking if it's OK that we text about the car. Person asked me to email a VIN report by going to vinncheckasap.com.

I only realized afterwards that I had been redirected to https:official.vin. Like a fool, I entered my credit card information and never received the VIN "report". Big scam.

- Cambridge, MA, USA

Contacted me in response to a craigslist car for sale add I posted and send me a link to a history vehicle report website which I followed and paid $19 for. The report may be valid, but it seems like a common CL scam now that I look into it and I received a similar phishing the next day from another “buyer”.

- Morgan Hill, CA, USA

I posted an ad on craigslist to sell my car. A person with the email address of [email protected] texted me from (213)336-3365 and asked me to go to this website for a VIN report. I paid $*** and sent the report to the email address.

No response...now I see that it is a scam.
