Type of a scam Employment
The supposed hiring manager had the candidate download an app called Signal - Private Messaging to further communicate after being hired. The manager sent the candidate a check over email and instructed her to print it out at home and use the mobile direct deposit feature to cash the check. The manager said that some of the money would go into the account right away and the rest would be available at a later date. The check bounced after a couple days of processing, and the hiring manager was now unresponsive through the messaging app. The candidate worked with her bank to figure out how to successfully deposit the money and after reprinting the check, the bank accepted it with some amount of reluctancy. The fraudulent business has been unresponsive since sending the check. The candidate called the HR department of Novant health and discovered that her name was not in the system and the hiring manager’s name was not recognized either.
