I did not get scammed, but I want to warn others of this scam. This scammer seemed half legit, which is why I kept contact with him for a while before I found proof that he was trying to scam. He was using iMessage and was talking like a normal person, not typical of a usual scammer’s behavior, which makes this type of scammer even more dangerous. I originally posted a Craigslist advertisement selling my laptop for around $2,499. I had someone message me by the name of Kay Tech who said they wanted to buy my laptop. This is red flag number one. They wanted to buy the laptop without negotiating. I said yes, gave him my number and email, and asked when would you like to meetup? I overpriced my laptop for a reason. Most people negotiate on second hand markets. I’m expecting people to negotiate me to a lower price that I’d be comfortable with because I set a high asking price. Anyone buying legitimately would know that my laptop is overpriced and would negotiate. Scammer Kay Tech messaged me with the number 832-714-6501 and asked where I’d like to meetup. I gave them an address to meetup in Tampa, FL (my location). However, they said they were in Houston, TX and asked if I could ship the laptop overnight using PayPal. Red flag number two is asking for overnight shipping. Asking for overnight shipping is something typical a scammer would ask for. I said I would ship the laptop overnight if he used crypto as payment. Scammer Kay Tech replied saying he only uses PayPal. I asked him will he be using PayPal Friends and Family or PayPal Goods and Services? Scammer Kay Tech kept ignoring the question a few times and responded to other aspects of my texts. I finally asked him directly which one will he be using and he said PayPal Goods and Services. This is a half red flag. Normally scammers use PayPal Friends and Family because there is no seller or buyer protection, however PayPal Goods and Services does. Because scammer Kay Tech said he would use PayPal Goods and Services, I kept contact and was thinking about going with the deal. He kept insisting on shipping the laptop tonight and kept asking me if I would ship the laptop that night which I replied no because I would need to finalize the details on PayPal so I can have some protection and get the payment first. Another red flag because scammers usually try to urge you to ship as soon as possible. We were texting around night time and he said he would call me in the morning to finalize the details and deals, which I agreed. The next morning came and I didn’t receive any phone call from him. Scammer Kay Tech then messages me midday saying, “Good Morning,” which I then replied good morning and told him that he didn’t call in the morning like he said he would. This is another red flag, but I still kept contact. Scammer Kay Tech then gives me his PayPal to send an invoice to. I was creating an invoice to send to scammer Kay Tech, but I kept asking him questions to make sure this person is legit and I’ll still be covered by PayPal protection. I asked scammer Kay Tech what is his full legal name to type into the invoice and he replied saying “Kay Tech.” Obviously this isn’t his full legal name, but I kept going with it. I asked him if he has Reddit so we can complete a sale on r/hardwareswap where there will be moderators to monitor the transaction and he said he doesn’t have Reddit. I asked him for an address. The address scammer Kay Tech gave me is 7030 Addicks Clodine Rd, Suite 103, Houston, Texas, 77083. An address with a suite number is a major red flag because scammers usually say to direct items to a PO Box or some business where someone else will pick up the item. Because I saw a suite number in the address, I decided to search it up on google street view to see if it’s a residential or business address. It ended up being a plaza with lots of small businesses. No residential address. And I also found this ScamPulse.com complaint when I typed this address, which made me extremely cautious. The address scammer Kay Tech gave me is the same exact address listed in the ScamPulse.com complaint. I then told him that the address he gave me is a business address and sent him a screenshot of the ScamPulse.com complaint and told him if he wanted to proceed with the sale I need another address. He gave me another address without a suite number to try and trick me thinking it’s a residential address, but I put it in google street view anyways. Again, it’s a plaza with several small businesses. The second address he gave me is 10008 Bissonnet Street, Houston, Texas 77036. I also found another ScamPulse.com complaint in google for that address listed. Link to that ScamPulse.com complaint is here (https://www.bbb.org/scamtracker/lookupscam/762581). I told scammer Kay Tech that this is yet another non-residential address and sent a screenshot of the ScamPulse.com complaint, which he then blocked me because my iMessage bubbles went from blue to green. As you can see, there were several red flags, but I was about to go through with the deal until I searched up those addresses and found those ScamPulse.com complaints. What makes this scammer especially dangerous is that he is using a Houston area code phone number, iMessage, said he would use PayPal Goods and Services, and talking like a regular person. I assume since this scam is a bit more lucrative than your typical scam, this scammer probably found out some loophole in PayPal Goods and Services which would void my protection. And since there are others that have been scammed using the same addresses, I’m assuming that this is a network of scammers that are working together and directing orders to these two addresses. They probably have more addresses which they utilize, but these are the two I have found.
