A posting was made to a reputable online real estate board and my neighbor who is a real estate agent and member shared it with us. The posting was to receive a piano from another real estate agent's client who is down sizing. Email forwarded:

One of our Realtor Mrs Bate is downsizing and looking to give away her late husband’s piano to a loving home. The piano is a 2014 Steinway baby grand.

Email her on ( [email protected] ) to indicate your interest to arrange inspection and delivery with a moving company.

N:B. It is on a first come first serve basis

They used a false email to donate a piano. Then used a false shipping company to scam out of money. They used Zelle. Zelle locked my account for possible scam. They called me from this number +1 (615) 562-0416 to check on the next payment. I figured it was a scam only after they requested a second payment and different payment info as well as their pushiness and the info the donator had about the delays in shipping. I received this email through my school I was getting a masters from. I searched the emails to find I missed a warning this was a scam. I feel very stupid and can’t believe I fell for it. It seemed too good to be true. I should have known.

Friend of ours had forwarded us an email that stated one of their realtor friends was trying to get rid of a Steinway baby grand piano. We contacted the ‘Mrs Hannah’ ([email protected]) via the email address provided. She stated that the piano was still available and requested that we reach out to the moving company. We had some back and forth with the “piano movers”, they offered several shipping options. We told them our shipping option and then they sent an invoice. The invoice was for $915 and they requested payment via Zelle to mailto:[email protected] (Dequaveus Sanders).

This is when the red flag went up for us because we had previously thought that this was someone that our friend knew. Luckily, we did not send them payment, just our names and address.

I am a Johns Hopkins alum and I received from someone who was using a Hopkins-looking email ([email protected]). This person forwarded an email about another alum named Ms Velasco giving away her 2014 Steinway piano for FREE after her husband passed away. I went ahead and contacted the alum who sent me pictures, a reference number (GU17JOK59), and the name of her piano shipping company, called Just Piano Shippers. So I emailed Just Piano Shippers and Bryan Jeffers from there sent me a list of options ranging from $615-1350 in shipping, delivery and assembly. I was a little sketched out so I did a reverse Google search of the images the alum sent to me, and they matched exactly with images attached to a Craigslist posting for a $25,000 baby grand piano in Brooklyn, so I’m not sure how this piano I was emailed about is being given away for free. Then, I went to visit the company’s website and it read that it was based in the Asia Pacific region and the was no address or listed locations in the US, so $615 would be ridiculously cheap for a piano being shipped internationally. I realized also that was no documentation provided to me to prove that the piano is truly a 2014 Steinway. So please be careful and don’t buy into this! be careful!
