Caller claimed to be tax collectors for IRS. Threatening to send you to jail if you don't come up with half of thousands of funds they claim you have in delinquent taxes for past 5 years. Give you two options. Either pay by Itunes pre paid cards is whatever amts they quote you or half or agents will come to your door and arrest you. They'll have you go to nearby merchants such as Walmart, Family Dollar, etc. to get them. They'll keep you on phone until transactions complete. Then, take scratch numbers from back of cards and done. They got me for $100 only....but "fool me once..."!

They are slimmey and scary. Very convincing. Tips : Don't do it. They don't even speak clear or fluent English. The recording from IRS sounds real but don't freak out. IRS doesn't operate that way.

- Waterloo, IL, USA

Called me multiple times. Left messages. Tried me 5 times today. I called them back and told them I knew it was a scam and they hung up on me.

- Des Plaines, IL, USA

This phone number called us 7 times in 6 hours declaring to be from the IRS and we would be jailed. We know it is a scam. Can these people be arrested?

- Florence, AL, USA

Phone call came in listed as unknown number from United States. A automated voice message was left that said: that my income tax returns were under investigation because of some discrepancies, and that I needed to return their call or face prosecution. The name given was Officer Robert Edwin from the Internal Revenue Service.

- Winston Salem, NC, USA

Claimed they were collecting $4,700 in taxes that I had wrong plus court costs & penalties. If I discussed with anyone or hung up the phone the local police would arrive at my location per the gps on my phone and arrest me & I would go to jail for minimum of 6months.

- West Wendover, NV, USA

I keep getting messages that state they are the IRS and if I do not call legal action will be taken. It is a computer recording. I called back after hours and the message said only that no one was available now. (NO BUSINESS) I called the next morning and a man that sounded like he was from India picked up. no business greeting. He just said. Hello who is this? I asked him who he was and what business this was and he would not tell me. he simply said that before he told me anything he needed to verify who I was by my personal information. (phone, Social # ECT.) I refused and stated to him I felt this was a scam as any upfront business would identify themselves. the man promptly hung up the phone. It was then that I contacted the BBB.

Thank you.

Number called twice and left same automated message stated legal action will be filed within 24 hours if this legal issue of not resolved. Called the number, connection was terrible, very choppy. Told me I had been audited by IRS and that between 2010 and 2014, incorrect amounts were used to file. I had filed timely, but with wrong amounts. He said that I had not responded to any mail that has been sent. I told him I've never recd any mail from IRS and that I had no idea what gw was talking about. He said I should know exactly what this is about, and I said, No, I have absolutely no idea what you are talking about, and then he hung up. SCAM!

- Pensacola, FL, USA

Was told I have an outstanding debt with the IRS and that if I didn't make resolution they were going to send a officer with an arrest warrant.

The caller claimed to be from the IRS (they called twice in the same day) and wanted me to give them information on myself. They had such a thick Asian accent I could barely understand their English (a man). I'm sure the IRS would not employ a call clerk who could hardly speak English, and I am sure we are not having any problems with the IRS.

- Spokane, WA, USA

Says he is w/ the IRS, I owe a lot of money and if I pay the whole thing, they wouldn't put me in jail/arrest. I didn't give any information and hung up. They used scare tactic for me to pay them.

The recorded call from this number claims to be the IRS -- tries to make it sound like we are in trouble with therm -- but my husband used to work for H and R Block, is an accomplished accountant and very honest. I know we don't have any problems with the IRS.

Called and said there was a warrant out for my arrest

Claimed to be the IRS and stated if I did not pay that there would be a lawsuit against us.

- Racine, WI, USA

Scammer called to tell me I will be arrested if I don't pay overdue taxes.

- Peoria, IL, USA

I received a phone call from 440-261-7643 who left a message stating that they are the IRS calling to collect on fraud charges against the IRS. There is an arrest warrant being issued in my name and and need to call them immediately. Tried to call back but either got a busy signal or no one answered.

- Newport News, VA, USA

I received three identical calls one after the other on June 20, 2017. The recorded message was supposedly from the IRS claiming that I owed back taxes. The message was almost identical to most other scams of this nature. The quality of the recording was very poor and difficult to understand at times. The voice which sounded like that of a female with a slight accent said she was from the IRS crime division. The caller left a phone number that I was encouraged to call immediately to resolve the tax problem. I hung up on the call.

- Charlotte, NC, USA

Consumer received a call from a foreign sounding man who stated he was with the IRS and that the police were about to come to her door because of tax evasion. Called stated that if consumer were to give him some information he would be able to stop the police. Wanted to know if consumer did her own taxes or had a company do them, then stated consumer owed over $3,000. Caller stated that consumer had to be honest with what she told him. Consumer then disconnected call

- Corpus Christi, TX, USA

An automatic recording claimed to be from the IRS stated that I had several claims against me and if I didn't call them at 914-373-7168 that I would be incarcerated.

- Omaha, NE, USA

Message from caller said that they were an agent with the IRS and that they were calling regarding a criminal matter that needed to be cleared up with a balance due.

They have called me 3 times today.

Automated call saying there is an IRS class action suit against recipient and pending arrest warrant in recipient's name. Automated message asking recipient to call 844-861-7751 to resolve issue. Return call answered by someone with foreign accent, identifying themselves as the Internal Revenue Service. When asked why they were calling my elderly Mom's phone, they hung up. Three calls in two days, before hang up.
