(06/01/2021) I recently attempted to apply for an EIN for our small business using an online application. Unfortunately, I did not realize that I was not in on the IRS website until after I submitted my online application which included a $279 fee.

I immediately tried to call the support number, but they were closed. I followed up with 2 emails indicating that I thought I was on the IRS website when completing the application and demanded that they cancel my order and refund my credit card in full. I received an Email response back the following morning time stamped 2:45 am confirming the cancellation and to expect a refund in 3-5 business days. We hope that we will in deed be refunded the $279 in full. We shall see. Otherwise, I will need to dispute the charge with our credit card company.

The website appeared legitimate and displayed all the right graphics to make one think that they were in fact on the IRS website.

My concern is that they now have some of our identifying personal information.
