I entered my information on a website for helping hands through another website and then exited before completing an application for financial hardship. I didn’t notice originally that they sent me a text and I seen it later called the number gave the reference number explained my hardship. During the conversation he asked was I looking to go to school and I answered yes to take a class for a certification and I was told I’ll get an email about my hardship approval and was transferred to speak to someone about the program I’m interested in. He confirmed the information they had on file looked up programs for my area and didn’t have any then said he would contact me if any program came up for what I was interested in. Then I hung up then I hung up. I then received another text with a link for my hardship but I didn’t click on it and deleted the text.

While Googling for help with a personal crisis I came upon the Helping Hands website. Since requesting information about hardship programs from site, I've received several phishing emails that say I'm eligible for support. I was in a moment of duress when I initially signed, so I don't recall the exact personal information I shared. Since then, I researched the alleged company and came across Reddit posts that confirm my suspicions.

I got a text from that number stating: “Helping Hands: Action Req. Update Your Hardship Needs Below https://helpinghandsact.com/retarget/?encoded_value=7BZ2W&oid=74&affid=5 Txt STOP to OptOut”

An alleged representative of Helping Hands by the name of Ann contacted me via the spoofed phone above. A recording came on saying that this call would be recorded for monitoring purposes or something like that. Ann then asked, did I owe the IRS more than 10,000 dollars? When I answered "No" the phone hung up.

Consumer found a puppy online at Craiglist and was asked to send $950 via Walmart gift cards. He never received the puppy since they asked for more money.

This was the typical phone call. Can You Hear Me? They want you to answer yes. I just asked who it was again and tried to opt out. They gave me the option of opting out, but I keep receiving these calls form different local numbers.

Continuously calling my phone after I pressed 1 as directed to opt out of any more calls. They were trying to sell me some sort of vacation. Even after I told her I’m not interested and have had several calls I opted out of she cut me off and kept talking

- Brunswick, GA, USA

Call said I was chosen to win a 4 day trip to Orlando

It’s a robocall that seeks to get the person on the other end to say yes

I recognized the town that popped up so I assumed it was someone’s cell from work. When I answered they said their name was Angela and asked if I could here them since they were on a recorded line. I said yes and then they started saying they were from Helping Hands but I hung up immediately. I did not know about the “Can you hear me “scam until after the phone call. If lasted around 12 seconds.

They said I applied for a job with them, before that they asked me to if this was andy Pell and I said yes because I have put in several applications. I asked the name of the company and then told them I didn’t apply with them and they hung up.

Hannah announced that someone in my household would benefit from a hearing aid product from Helping Hands and would qualify for blah blah blah. i asked where did you get this info. and she abruptly hung up.. when I called back the number just went beep beep beep..

this is one of those that says "this is Tom from Helping Hands, can you hear me ok" scams to get your information. I have been getting these calls to my cell phone, which is on the Do Not Call Registry.

because I have been getting so many random phone calls to my phone number, I only pick up calls from numbers I know. Thankfully I don't answer these calls, but getting them so often is getting incredibly annoying.

- Blue Springs, MO, USA

Tells me I qualify for energy saving bathroom improvements. Obvious scam robocall. Try to call the number back to talk to someone and it says to email them.

Gentleman caller said "Hi this is Jim from Helping Hands, do you hear me ok?" I responded "yes". A long pause then the statement "someone in your household gets prescriptions refilled, is that correct?" I responded "yes". Long pause then phone hung up. I searched Google for Helping Hands and see it is a scam in itself, but underneath the phrase "Do you hear me ok?" site said they record your voice and then use it to sign you up for something or sell you something you didn't want, and when you go to cancel they use your Yes answer as proof of your approval.

I get around two calls a day. All my calls come from either Prosser, WA., Yakima, WA., and Spokane WA. All claim to be from an organization called Helping Hands. As soon as I tell them I'm not interested in anything they are selling or donations and ask to be taken off their call list they hang up. When I immediately call back my call goes to a recording that all their reps are busy on other calls and then refer to their email for further question. I have not emailed them because I don't want them to have my email address. Phone numbers are constantly changing but are usually coming from the three cities I listed above. If there is a law against scammers and telemarketers harassing people how do file a complaint? These are especially annoying because they are distracting when I'm at work.

Hang Up! Never answer a phone number you don't recognize. As soon as you tell them you know the scam they disconnect. Horrible people.

This is not a charity, and Todd Lehman says as much. He has profited with over $1.5 million dollars scamming Seniors. I get calls from his Helping Hands organization day and night, with different phone numbers each time. He claims we need to put our phone number into their "internal Do Not Call list", which is not true. The onus is on the company to make sure they check the Do Not Call list before calling the numbers, so don't fall for this distraction. He's doing nothing to help others, but doing everything to line his own pockets.

I believe I was a victim of the 'yes' phone scam. I accidentally said 'yes' on the phone. Is there anything I can do?
