The scammer contacted our CEO to solicit purchase of an attendee list to on of our company's annual trade events. Upon response with feigned interest to see what information the scammer possessed, John Martin replied with a quote showing a "discounted" cost of $496, purporting to be a list of 18,000+ contacts for an event which, in this case, only featured a few thousand attendees. They provided banking information to an account in NY along with the invoice.

This is regarding an email list that was sold to me at my publishing company. I'm in marketing and was going to send an email campaign out to these folks who'd attended a conference me and my company had just attended. After paying 2k for the list we sent out to the email addresses provided, only to learn more than 80% of them were fake.
