I couldn't reach an American Airlines representative. I kept looking for other numbers to call and came upon a number I thought to be American. A representative picked up right away. I told them that I needed to make sure my name was correct on my ticket for international travel tomorrow. They informed me that there would be a $285 charge, as the name on my ticket was off by more than 3 letters. They required me to send my passport information (photo of the passport) and to pay them. When my bank reached out about potential fraud, I realized that I was not dealing with American or an affiliate. I don't know what will happen with my personal information now.

I booked a flight with Experian, but my name was entered incorrectly. I googled how to change my name on a United flight and one forum provided this number. I assumed it was United Airlines, and started giving them my flight information and the credit card number that was charged for the transaction. They said they were a third party that would handle the name change for me but since my original transaction would have to be cancelled there would be a charge. I became suspicious and started asking questions, and meanwhile went to my credit card site and locked it just in case. Shortly after I locked my card they hung up on me.

I do not know if this is a US business, but wanted to report it in a few places to help others avoid this scam.

Same almost happened to me yesterday, I was already almost giving in, until the guy on the phone mentioned I had to rebook the ticket due to a name change error, then I requested to call back and he was persuading me to remain on the call so I can provide my card details. I hung up.
