Facebook group Golden Retrievers Up For Adoption - Puppy Scam Reports & Reviews (4)

SCAM Alert! The Facebook Group, Golden Retriever Rescue Network/Rehoming Shelter Puppies and Adoption, with over 24k members advertises puppies available for adoption or rehoming. A recent post from March 2025 highlighted a puppy named "Teddy" in need of re-homing. I communicated with one of the group administrators, Heather Wilson Golden Life (facebook page profile: https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=61560357344744) about the dog. After numerous message exchanges, I made a deposit via Zelle and was informed that travel details would be provided in the coming days. The dog was to travel from El Paso, TX to the northeast. Each time I reached out to Heather for an update, she delayed sharing information. She also provided a fake number, 209-791-3304.

When I finally addressed the scam to the group, I was blocked/removed from the group. Both pages have a large following and I am certain they are scamming people routinely with all administrators being compromised. I have been working with authorities, my bank, my lawyer, and Meta to shut this group down and bring charges against these people. If you come across any of these pages as shown in the attached images, please report them and do not engage with them!

An admin on the Facebook group Golden Retrievers Up For Adoption - Jesse David - offered a puppy up for adoption. The owners recently fell ill and the dog needed to be rehomed. After some back and forth I agreed to the adoption, and Jesse requested that the adoption fee be paid via Zelle. I did so, and he provided a tracking number from Air Pets Cargo Logistics. Once this was arranged, another fee appeared - a crating fee - from the freight company. I duly paid this fee, and then suddenly an insurance fee was required - $1500 'refundable' upon delivery. The payment method was Bitcoin, which set off alarm bells. We confirmed that it was indeed a scam. I requested to talk to the 'owner' of the pup, and was given a fake number (432-718-0122). When this number didn't work the owner ("Steve Holmes") offered to contact me through Facebook messenger, and he called me. He had a very strong African accent, despite ostensibly being from El Paso, Texas. When I called him out on it, I was suddenly blocked from the Facebook group.
