Type of a scam Employment
However, upon after being contacted for an "interview," the job was described as being for a travel agency based in Los Angeles, California.
There was a lot of big talk from "the founder" during the "interview," which supposedly took place during a meeting of current employees (he pretended to call on people as if he were discussing things with them too), about how the company hated modern corporate culture and low minimum wage, and a tug-at-the-heartstrings made-up story about an employee whose previous workplace fired her one week from retirement despite promising her a comfortable retirement twenty years ago. Jacob guaranteed entry-level employees more money than the typical $15 per hour pay rate.
I was skeptical throughout, especially because as far as I can remember, the company name was never identified. (It certainly wasn't Brayton Group.)
"The founder," a man who identified himself as Jacob, also said early on in his spiel that "This is not a scam or an MLM," but claimed he would schedule a one-on-one meeting with anyone who had misgivings.
The last piece of the scam puzzle is the fact that to access company training, one has to pay an entity called The Travel Agent Institute $97 USD. The reason given was that certification was needed to reassure clients and also provide protection to "the consultant" in case of any safety issues.
I was exhausted after the end of a long day, so the massive red flags in that part didn’t hit me until after I'd eaten a meal maybe half an hour later. Fortunately, I was able to stop the money from being withdrawn after immediately calling my bank.
I then did some research into this scam and learned that it can be traced to someone named Jacob Sark.
I'm incredibly grateful to others who have encountered this person and his scams for sharing information, and to ScamPulse.com for collecting and posting it.
