I received a text message from 516-559-6315. During this text a person identified as "Mr. Adams Lawson, Head of the Hiring Recruiters Dept. at Echostor Technologies" stated he reviewed my resume on Career Builder and offered me a position of Data Analyst making $42.00 per hour. The man had me download an app "Signal Messenger." Once downloaded, he contacted me by a different number 320-743-1866. He stated he was going to conduct a job interview via IM. He explained the position requirements and demands. He then asked standard questions about relevant job experience. He had me stand by for him to talk to his supervisors about hiring me. He then provided the company website, https://echostor.com/ for my review while I waited. It's a real website. After approximately 40 minutes, he returned to the IM and stated I met the requirements for the position. He then asked for my full name, address, email address, phone number so he could send me the "new hire paperwork." I did not provide any additional information that was not already on my public resume. I did receive an email with 4 attachments (Direct deposit page, W4, I-65, and Educational Form). This email was from [email protected]. He then advised me of the equipment that would be required to perform a remote job. He asked me about my internet provider, which I did disclose as Comcast. He then went into a long request of sending me a check via email, depositing the check into my bank account, then purchasing certain equipment from designated vendors. When I asked him for a phone number to contact him back at, he stated to use the one he contact me from, 516-559-6315. I had already called it. I received a voice recording which simply stated, "No one is available to answer your call, please leave a message." He then repeated via IM the instructions on depositing an emailed check via mobile banking. At this time, I responded to him with a polite, "With all due respect Mr. Lawson, it is very difficult for me to grasp the concept of obtaining employment from a company who sought me out, conducted an interview via IM for a data analysis position paying over $100,000 a year, wanting me to deposit a check and provide other identifying information over IM. I have worked with Law Enforcement for over 25 years." I never received another IM or text from this individual again. I also called EchoStor and used their dial by name directory. They have no Adams Lawson or combination of those names as an employee.
