Yesterday I was looking for a house to rent on Craigslist. I found this house. I read about it. It said there was an application fee of $75.00 and a deposit of 600.00. I contacted him by text using the number posted on the web page. I We chatted back and forth. I mentioned my wife and I are on subsidized housing (Section 8). He then said, "well you have nothing to worry about your qualifications will be fine". So, he said, "well you could pay the deposit now to take the house off the market," if I wanted and we didn't have to pay the full deposit right away we only need to pay a portion now and the rest later, so I did. We agreed on an amount which was $750.00. $75 x 2 and $600.00 of the deposit and the remaining $200.00 to be paid later. After discussing the situation my wife and I agreed so we paid the money to them through our bank we paid it. So now today we went to the house at the agreed upon time for a showing and got this somewhat bazaar story as to why he wasn't there. So, we were fed up by now. So now we are out $750.00

Looking for an apartment. I emailed the rental. They replied. Proceeded to tell me I needed to fill out a credit report. I refused and said I want to see the unit before I fill out anything. They tired to tell me it was refundable (which I knew right then that it wasn’t legit, no rental applications are refundable in my experience). I searched “can't see apartment unless I fill out a credit check”. ScamPulse.com showed up on the top of google and the artical said exactly that. Cut all communication with them.

Hello was this person renting out a room in WA? Or using this listing?

Posted a rentable house on craigslist. Said to contact only through calling. Then said that they needed a credit check through clickfreecredit, and then tried to direct me to another number to actually make the apartment tour.

- Seattle, WA, USA

Person stated they were the Property Manager Judy Goff. Stated I couldn’t see the property but if I wanted to secure it I would need to send a deposit. Added that a man with 6year olds lived there and had lost their mother in childbirth and wanted to respect their privacy.

Something about a walk through and lease after the 26th of November w/ an attorney present.

The scammer posed as a person trying to lease a house in Moscow, ID, and I contacted them about a viewing. The scammer used a link to identityiq that wasn't precisely the identityiq web address, and the website asked for a credit check. The website looked legitimate, so I entered my SSN, and shared screenshots of my credit scores. Then the scammer asked for me to pay an $85 fee to schedule a showing, at which point I became very suspicious and ended the conversation. I'm worried they got my SSN from the link I had used.

My son was looking for an apartment to rent on the Seattle Craigslist. He ran into a guy named Jerry Gooze who used the email [email protected] who advertised a condo to rent at 3919 Whitman Ave N, Seattle, WA 98103. He wanted my son to give him a $1500 security deposit and $1500 first month's rent before even showing him the apartment. He said that he couldn't show the apartment because there was a newly wed couple renting it and he promised not to show it until Sept. 1 when they were gone. But he wanted the money now (Aug. 16) to hold it.
Someone on this site wrote about this guy and his scam so I saw it and reported it to Craigslist and they took down the posting.
I'm posting this in case anyone else runs into this grifter.

This guy posted a house on Craigslist for rent extremely cheaper than anything we’ve seen while the house was posted for sale. Got mine and my boyfriends personal info of where we work and how much we make and even made up a lease and has us sign it until it came to sending money I got a bad feeling and called the sale listing and they said it was an extreme scam if anything out there about it is for rent

Contacted a Craigslist Ad for a Seattle rental apartment around July 15th. After discussing terms via email, I was sent a PDF of a lease (attached) and they requested a refundable security deposit (1500) and first month's rent (1500) via Zelle. Their names were listed as Jerry Gooze (Manager) and Antonae Gilchrist (Landlord). After sending the first half of the payment, I grew suspicious and started asking more questions, but the person I was emailing (Jerry) only kept asking for the second half of the payment. I requested a refund for my $1500, and of course, did not receive it. They are no longer responding to my emails, and I was never given a phone number.

For those who may seen this post: the address for the rental scam was 3919 Whitman Ave N, Seattle, WA 98103

Thanks for posting this. My son started corresponding with this guy Jerry Gooze about the same apartment rental in Fremont and then found out that he wanted the $1500 security deposit and $1500 first month rent in advance of seeing the apartment which he said that he could not show until Sept. 1. I saw your post and reported it to Craig's List. Thanks again!

Claimed to have house for rent. Wanted early payment. Same email as earlier posting to bbb.

They had a post on craigslist for a unit for rent. I emailed them about it and they said to contact them at 804-991-0596. I googled it and looks like it was a scam!! They tried to get me to send them 80 for an application fee.
