The Craigslist listing stated that he would first come out for an initial diagnosis - so after a few texts, we agreed on a day. Unfortunately when the date came, he arrived after midnight as he was supposedly busy with other repairs all day.
As we completed the initial diagnosis close to 1am (to determine the extent of the issue and how much it would cost), he stated that he would require a deposit and partial parts or labor payment so he can at least get the parts ordered. We agreed that I would pay for the parts now - and pay for labor once the repairs were done.
Giving him the benefit of the doubt, that night I gave him 350 dollars.
A few days later he needed to come back because he said he wanted to make sure he was ordering the right parts. He tried to ask for more money at that time but I said no as I wanted him to start the repairs first.
For the next 2 months I called and texted him to come back to start the work and he never did. He kept saying his other jobs were delayed, he had his driving license revoked by state, etc.
Eventually he started getting annoyed with my calls and laughed at me every time I threatened to call the police and report him as he knew this was a civil matter and they could not do much unless there was a criminal element or physical harm.
Apparently Mr. Allen(Allan) has this all figured out as he seemed to be pretty comfortable despite my warnings.
After doing some research on his name online, I came across the RipOffReport.com website and to my disgust, he has done this several times throughout central New Jersey.
After realizing that this man is a con, and that he preys on people, I tried to call him several times to talk about it but he eventually stopped answering and furthermore, the phone line was eventually cut off and he can no longer be reached.
