The scammer tried to buy my house with an official looking check offer which is below market price. The scammer is trying to make elderly people cash the check not realizing they are signing their house away. The homeowner may not even realize that they are still liable for any unpaid mortgage. The homeowner also may not realize they would have to move out of their home. This would make them homeless.

This scam is offensive to any homeowner who may not realize that signing the check would cost them. The wording on check stub makes it sound like this is the only house they are interested in. This type of scam needs to be investigated and stopped.

In very, very small letters it does give a disclaimer that this is not a real check but it is not easily found or readable.
