He did the same to me as the others just today! So glad for this website! Thanks for posting your experiences. I reported to boat trader as well. [censored]! He emailed me about 3 weeks ago asking some random question. Then I got the email below. Once I said a check wasn’t gonna work he stopped responding.

I posted my boat online to sell and I got a lead from boat trader. The email set up through boat trader is [email protected]. Which I thought was weird. Then he emailed me as follows

The boat is in good condition. It does come with 4 life vests as well. When would you like to see it?

Yes, that would be fine. However I have had about 19 scammers try to con me out of it with false information and fake cashierschecks. Can I please have your information so I can verify it? Once it is verified then I will tell anyone else it's sending sale.

He didn't respond until a couple of weeks afterward with another inquiry about the same thing. I guess he forgot that I wanted to verify him.

I think you inquired about it before. It's in great shape. Would you like to come and look at it?

Scammer 'advertised' a boat on Boattrader.com. We corresponded approx. 1 week via email, asked many questions about the boat, which he answered. Scammer did not give us his phone number. He said boat was to be purchased through 'Amazon Secure Payment', which we researched and felt was legitimate. He sent us a 'link' to sign in, along with information where the money was to be transferred to. The link had Amazon's logo and typical font. It appeared legitimate. We created our username (our email) and password, (which was a number generated by an 'invoice number'). Once we did this, his bank information was then accessible, which included the bank routing and account number, oddly with no reference to Amazon. (Having never done a purchase this size through Amazon, it didn't occur to me that the bank wasn't affiliated with Amazon). Once we transferred the funds, the receipt was uploaded to the 'link' he provided (which we thought was Amazon). We then told him the wire transfer was complete, and asked about delivery of the boat. He told us Amazon will generate a confirmation number and email it to us. That never happened. We contacted Amazon and were told they had no record of the sale. We also reached out to our bank to try to recover the funds. We emailed the 'seller' again to inquire about the confirmation as well as boat delivery, and his email bounced back. We've not heard back, our money is gone!
