Black Decker/Stanley Reports & Reviews (7)

They initially sent both a text and an email, both with the same premise -- that they were an HR person for Black and Decker, and they had several open positions to discuss with me on Microsoft Teams. I believe they found my information via IMatchSkills, which I had to sign up for when I recently lost my job and wanted to sign up for unemployment. Because I did in fact sign up for IMatchSkills this didn't initially come across as suspicious to me. However, when they wanted to talk via chat on the weekend, rather than a call interview, and said they were "available now" but didn't schedule in advance, I became suspicious. I realized they weren't coming from an @blackanddecker (or whatever the company's iteration would be) email address, and I checked Black and Decker's website Careers section and was unable to find the positions they'd mentioned. The name on the email was James Shadid, but I also got a text from an "Alan Telles" about the same positions. The email was [email protected]. They said if hired I would receive money from the company to purchase equipment from their vendor, which is for sure the scam element.

I was texted about a job opportunity with Black and Decker through the Oregon Job Board. James Shadid directed me to a Microsoft Teams link to chat with him where he interviewed me over chat with typical interview questions and offered me $25/hr to train for the first week and $32/hr for an at home position. About and hour after the questions, he said that they hired me and would be sending me a long list of expensive office equipment. I naturally inquired about if I would have to repay Black+Decker for the equipment and he said that no, they would be sending me a credit card to cover all expenses and that's when I realized that it was a scam. First he's sending me all sorts of expensive equipment and then a credit card to pay for it?! Hummm...? I told him then that we would not be doing business together and left the Chat.

I was texted about a job opportunity with Black and Decker through the Oregon Job Board. He directed me to a Microsoft Teams link to chat with a hiring associate where they interviewed me over chat with typical interview questions and offered me $30 an hour for an at home positions. Almost immediately after the questions, they said that they hired me and at that point I knew that was super fishy and a scam. Fortunately, I didn't give away any sensitive information.

Same deal-e-o. Except he offered me 2$ more than you at $32/hr, I guess moving up in the world of scamming.

This is a scam. When I reached the point where they sent me a check, I was suspicious even more because the company on the check was J C Ripberger Construction Corporation. So I googled their name and called to number for the company and spoke with someone there and was told they have no affiliation with black + decker. She asked me to send a copy of the check, and she confirmed it was from one of their old accounts and it’s definitely fraudulent.

I was offered a work-at-home position, for $30 an hour, and $25 an hour during the training period, to work for Black & Decker, in a data entry/admin position. It sounded great at first. I was told they would send me a check for the required software I was to purchase (mostly accounting related), and I would receive a tracking number either for Fedex or Ups, whichever service they used. They never asked for any of my info (ssn or bank info) at first, until I received paperwork from their HR.

Has anyone else heard of anything like this? Should I run as fast as I can, or play this out, without hurting myself?

How did this play out for you. I exchanged the messages and was told they would send me a check to purchase my equipment. I don't trust it. I've always been told a legitimate job would not ask you to purchase the equipment even if they are providing the funds. I have worked from home before and all equipment was mailed to me.
