I was on searching for a customer service number for my amazon smile account, since amazon smile did not provide me with a number on their website, that i could easily find. I finally find a customer service number on google search and call it. A gentleman answers and asks what he could help me with. So i explain that there were charges on my account that i could not find on my order history. He proceeds to have me download a program called "GoToAssist" on my computer. He is guiding me through this and telling me what to click and type in. All of the sudden, he is remotely accessing my desktop and purchasing a $100 google play giftcard on my credit card. This was apparently their process of refunding money. He informed me that their billing dept will be calling me and i was to tell them that i approved the purchase. Right there, i felt like this was not right. I did feel that i was too far in already. As soon as i hung up, I found the official Amazon number and they informed me that i in fact did not speak with someone from their company and that i was scammed. My heart dropped, I work for a company that deals with confidential information, that could get our company sued and buried in lawsuits. This man had my boss' CC information and access to our servers.In sheer panic, I closed our account with amazon, froze the credit card, and had our IT team flushing out my computer and safeguarding our servers. I wouldn't wish this kind of panic on anyone. I called the number back the next day, and it is no longer in service, of course. I. Got. Played.
