Hotel reservation poaching. They got my email from the KM World 2026 speakers list and claimed to be the event's official booking agent. I got suspicious when the rate was $509 and not $319, the event hotel rate. When I called, they delayed, put me on hold, dropped the call, and spent more time saying they were honest than providing valid confirmation codes or confirming the hotel had paid for the reservation. They finally sent an email, and the confirmation codes were semi-valid, and the hotel confirmed these had not been paid and were only a reservation, with no payment. Red flags left and right. I then called the event organizer, and they confirmed these folks were poaching reservations, and others had fallen prey to this scam. I contacted my two credit card providers and filed fraud claims for the two transactions. Research found the address and phone number are used by over a dozen other websites and business names - clearly a fraud operation ring.
