Type of a scam: Fake Check/Money Order

This person contacted us to make an appointment for 5 daughers using a check

They said their name was "Emily Williams" were not available to talk as they were in the hospital with lung cancer. They would not provide addresses, emails or any other information. When we did a reverse number search it brought up a different name. They wanted to pay with check in advance for 10 appointments. They provided fake names and DOB for 5 daughters.

Individual reached out as "Emily Williams" wanted family counseling. When I asked more about how they would prefer to received services and insurance detail all of my questions were ignored and the response went on about how she was unable to speak on the phone because she was recovering in a hospital from lung cancer. She wanted to arrange two counseling sessions as a gift for her two adult daughters to "keep them occupied during her surgery". As a therapist this stood out as a strange request so I did a google search on the phone number and found that similar scams have happened with the same phone number. I never responded after that last text so they did not get to proceed with attempting to schedule anything or make payments and request refunds like others reported.
