I received two letters in the mail from Home Service Agreement Programs and Home Warranty Services upon moving into a new place. The letters were identical, except the HSAP letter had a phone number and address (listed in complaint), while the Home Warrant Services letter only had a phone number (1-877-796-7756). The letters also had different coverage ID numbers. The letters talked about activating a home warranty that includes a 3-year coverage plan for multiple items including Air Conditioning, Heating & Furnace, Washer, Dryer and Water Heater, among others. I called one of the companies but I could tell something was off because the automated system didn't say the company's name. When I spoke with someone on the phone (Steve) they told me about the warranty and how it was a 3-year warranty that would cost $199.21 up front for the first two years and the final year would be free, and all they needed was my card information. That's when I knew this was too good to be true and told them I would call back, but obviously will not be. Making this complaint to help others steer clear of this scheme and hopefully put an end to this.

I'm an [censored] so I fell for it. As a new home owner, I was so nervous about doing everything "right" that I agreed to this when I shouldn't have. I called to cancel and they told me to write a letter to an address that has been closed for years.

I paid them last month, but since calling to cancel, I noticed another charge for this month. When I questioned them about it, they tried to gaslight me into believing that the $199 was a monthly charge, when they clearly told me I would pay for two years and get the third year free.

I just went ahead and closed my credit card. That should stop the charges. I wish I was smarter. Never again.
