I was selling a couch for $150 on Facebook Marketplace. A lady named Rachel messaged me saying she wanted it. She wanted to pay for it now then come pick it up the following day. She wanted to know if I used Zelle for payment, which I told her yes. She texts me on messenger that she had sent over the $150. I don’t see the deposit in my account but get an email from who I think is Zelle telling me payment is on hold. Then I get another email from Zelle stating I need to expand my acct to get my money from her cause she sent it from a business acct and my Zelle acct is a personal one. So in order to expand my account, the buyer has to deposit $350 into my acct which I must refund her right away, then Zelle will deposit $500 into my acct($150+$350). So the scammer tells me she deposits the $350, which I still don’t see on my Zelle activity or on my bank app but get another email from Zelle saying that the account manager working on the transfer accidentally sent me 2 refunds for $350 ea so can I send $350 twice then they will send me $1200. Thank god chase put a hold on my account after the second $350 went to a Fernando on Zelle cause they were convincing me I needed to then send $300 for a certificate thru Apple Pay to someone at Zelle which was a persons gmail acct. Chase confirmed it was a scam and stopped the $300 from going thru. When I went back to look at the emails more clearly they were coming from a [email protected]. The whole time the scammer was sending me screen shots of her bank account showing her sending me the money, so it was very convincing.
