"This is... CDL, we have documents being issued in your name..."

I have been getting repeated phone calls from a company calling themselves CDL. In the messages they say "We have documents being issued from our office, if you have any questions or concerns about the forms to be issued, I strongly recommend calling 888-621-4412" and then they give me a file number.

So I googled "CDL debt collector" and the phone number, and nothing comes up except this post so I figure it's a scammer. But what really bothers me is that they called my mom on her cell phone and told her I'm going to be in "a lot of trouble" if I don't contact them right away, which is ridiculous. Financial debt can't result in criminal charges.

If anyone else is getting these harassing phone calls, you're not alone! I don't know who these people are, but I'm not going to play their reindeer games. Legit debt collectors are not allowed to make threats or harass family members, so already they're 0/2 on the legitimacy test.

Called myself, and all family members leaving voicemails that they needed me to call a different number than the number they called from immediately to discuss documents. Some family members answered and they used scare tactics that I’m facing legal trouble and they needed more information confirmed about me to release the information. I answered a call and they couldn’t answer any questions I had just kept saying I needed to call another phone number. They would repeat off my full name and address but didn’t seem to have much else info and couldn’t give me a straight answer as to what they were after. Every time they called it was from a different number and area code, but always demanding I call 888-621-4412. Said he was Owen from CDL
